Default Scanner Options

Ok I have efi live and yes it works for my camaro and some other GM vehicles but, I also have some older OBDII vehicles though like my daily driver. I just want to be able to scan some trouble codes and read sensors. I have a laptop of course so what are my options where I could scan a wide variety or pretty much any obdII vehicle. Is there any free programs I can just download then buy a cable or what? I know its not obdII but for my friends 91 gta im pretty sure he just downloaded a free program then got a cable somewhere and we could read the sensors and check codes with that I think but its been awhile since we did that. So just looking for some options

Thanks,
John

The V1 scantool should be able to scan the older OBD-II GM vehicles (any GM OBD-II that uses VPW).
