Default troublecode p0757

friend has a 01 formula with a few bolt-on and a B&M shiftkit, every now and then just cruising around under partial throttle his car throws a code p0757. he has hpp3. here is what I think is happinging please check to see if I am correct:

1)
he tunes with hpp3 and says "yes" to aftermarket shift kit.
2)
hpp3 makes no changes to the stock shift table
3)
when racing or driving aggresivly the PCM doesn't mind the extra pressures the the shift kit creates
4)
when just cruising around and at less then half-throttle he throws a code p0757

I believe this is because on the cruise table its looking for a stock shift but the shift kit is still making it shift hard therefore going outside the values listed on the cruise table and throwing the code p0757

man I am bad at the troubleshooting thing, this is prolly all wrong but someone please let me know if this is anywhere near what I should be thinking

Has he tried taking the shift tune back to stock to see if he still throws the code? It would be the first step in trouble shooting this question.
