im not sure if this is a newbie question or not but where is the memory for the odometer stored? to put this question into context im looking at getting some gauges off of a 160k mile WS6 but the guy im getting them from swears up and down that they will read 160k miles when i put them into my car. that sounds wrong but i would like to be sure before i put them in and get 90k miles tacked on to the odometer.. anyone know?

The miles are stored in the guage cluster itself, it will read the miles of whatever car it came out of

Yes the cluster and the bcm work together but the mileage on the cluster will overide. There are places that you can send the cluster to have it set to the correct mileage.
