knock sensor too sensitive?

knock sensor too sensitive? ok i have 95+ knock sensor on my 94 motor and am wanting to know if this is set too sensitive? i heard the 95+up sensors were different than the 94 and earlier sensors. My car feels very under powered and i got the timing pretty close with maybe a degree or two being retarded. i just want to rule this out if it is hurting my performance.
