Default predator or hypertech III?

i wanted to know if anybody had compared the two and had some inside info. on which one works better or the claims are more accutrate. i know the predator has a built in scanner and that it seems to be more versitile. the prices are almost identical. just wanted to have info before i make a $300-400 mistake.

do you mean because of its tuning versatility(SC)or it's ability to also scan the computer for errors? do you own one and has it lived up to it's claims?

I just recieved a Predator today and will let you know how it goes. In the future I will be getting LS1Edit unless the Predator has a flash upgrade soon that allows more programming options. For the money I felt the Predator would do what I wanted for now. I have sent an email to them asking about custom tunes and the $ it would cost. I like the fact that I can use the diagnostic functions that it offers and I already have a method to view running data with the Predator. I guess time will tell if I have made a good decision. Based on all the other threads on here the Predator is the way to go though.

Well, I have a Predator and performed "before & after" Dyno (w/Wideband O2) tests. I went from 320rwhp/344rwtq to 334rwhp/356rwtq. That's 14hp/12tq peak, but I also saw over 17rwhp/17rwtq elswhere in the RPM range. 5hp & 7lb/ft tq came from being able to fine tune my A/F (on the Dyno) with the Predator AFTER the "Performance Tune" was downloaded, something the HPP3 doesn't allow. Plus I'm always using the RTD to monitor engine sensors while I cruise. Combine that with the Customer Service you'll get from James (RWTD) if you buy from him and there's no way the HPP3 comes close.

Sounds good, keep me posted. the predator seems to be the way im leaning towards. i was just wondering because since it's a relatively new product and didn't know if it was just a sales pitch! let me know how it turns out. Also, if you hav a A4, could you post how it affected your shifts and how tuner-friendly the predator is? Laterz!

I own both (HPP3 for programming, and a predator for scan tool)

I would buy a Predator if it will do what you need.

The HPP3's are nice, cause you can get them used for $200 and then sell them for around $200 when you want to upgrade

The predator is locked to the original car's vin, and can not be sold as a programmer for another car.

The predator will do a lot more. But might not remove the speed limiter.

predator does not support the 98 cars, so i hope its not for the car in your sig. i bought a used one just for a cheap handheld scantool.

I will sell you my HPP3 for $200 shipped if your interested. (will be back to stock, and ready to use on another car, Ryan212@aol.com )

Ryan.

Opps, just saw that you own a '98 LS1. Make sure that they make a Predator for that year before you order.

Installed an Air Box Lid and reprogrammed with the Predator tonight. I can tell the most differance in the midrange in the lower gears. Seems to pull much better up to just below the redline and then seems the same. This is what I would expect with no other mods. I was unable to adjust the top speed limiter. The info states that you can disable the CAGS. I could not find anyway to do this on my car. This is a bummer because it is one of the reasons I purchased the Predator. I will send an email to the tech line and see what they have to say. 99 TransAm, M6. Just got the car with 25k miles for $16,900 and love it so far. Again my only real complaint about the Predator is the CAGS. I veiwed the running data and adjusted Rev Limiter all went well. I think that they could have done a bit better job formatting the data on the screen, however this is trivial. After using the Predator I do not regret buying it.

Called Diablo Sports about the skip shift issue and they are doing a custom tune for free via email. They also will help me out when I install my cam and headers in the near future. Very impressed with the customer service I recieved. I am even happier about the purchase now. Predator is hands down the best handheld programmer in my opinion.

superchips makes a programmer, that can have some custom probramming done by them, and installed in your car.

But no computer interface like the diablo.

Other than diablo/superchips/hypertech/ and edit, thats all i know of.

Got my custom tune already and the Skip Shift disabled. It was a painless operation done via email. I was actually dealing with people that understood thier product well and were patient. I could still find a few things to complain about(I'm good at it) if I wanted too Again my vote is for the Predator.

A Predator won't let you remove/adjust the top speed limiter? That's half the reason I would want a programmer in the first place.

I was told that the 99 versions are at 160MPH from the factory. I can not verify this yet as I have not went flat out with my 99 TA yet.
