P0442 and a fuel smell
Hi folks
I have a P0442 code and I have noticed a fuel smell comming form the rear driver side when I have a full tank. Yesterday I was digging into a sharp right handed curve pretty hard and all of a sudden I started smelling fuel.
Anyone else se this before? Thinking it may be the filler neck or perhaps the seal above on fuel pump retaining ring. Any thoughts?

95% sure your gas cap isnt on right...had that code pop up one me once...ironically i was going to get gas. Make sure it clicks when you put it on. though i suppose it could be the other stuff u mentioned but hell start with the easy fix first!

Hmm, well i believe p0442 is an evap. control code so the next thing would be to get down under the car where the fuel door and all is to see if somethings loose like you said about the filler neck. maybe if you pulled the wheel off you be able to look up in there.. Have you ever had your fuel pump replaced? If so Id check the retaining ring. But since you only noticed on a right hand turn with a full tank I doubt it. See what you can find around the filler neck. I think its just a rubber tube with hose clamps on it so its a possibility.

No doubt the 98 has a unique one. I had a hard time finding the cap. I have been under there in the last month or so after I took the wheel off but only looked at the evap lines. Will hit it again next weekend.

OK, so I got under there and just tinkered with everyting I can see or feel comming to/from the evap can. One of the rubber hoses was very dry-rotted and the metal spring type clamps were rusted out. I also took the evap can down (you unclip it at the bottom and slide it out of the bracket) and found the plastic clamp on the large line had come off. Replaced hose and clamps then put the plastic clamp back on. No problems since. Well, with the Evap code anyway.
