Re: cooling fan help
I just installed a 160* thermo and have my fans set at 180' for fan 1 and 190' for fan 2. The car has been running 176*-180* for the past couple days.

Re: cooling fan help
sweet, so ill look into that. what should i run my fans at with the 180 so i dont burn up my fans but still keep it as cool as possible?
PS. I have run the fans non-stop during total engine run time on many cars over the years. My old Formula, my last Camaro, etc. Never had an issue doing it. Works GREAT for keeping trans temps down. Fan are MUCH cheaper and easier to replace than transmissions.... Either way though, never burned out a fan yet after many, many years of this practice.

Re: cooling fan help
Hypertech setting for the 180 stat is as follows.
0n at 194 off at 185 fan1
On at 204 off at 195 fan2
hope this helps. Oh yeah what are you using to make your fan setting changes.

Re: cooling fan help
I have been running my fans constantly for 3 years without them "burning up". probably would take 50K miles or more to burn them out running all the time like mine. I do this on purpose to keep air constantly blowing across my trans cooler, and to maintain a constant coolant temp within the radiator. They are set to come on at 195 and go off at 185. Car never reaches 185 with my 180 stat, it always sits between 192 and 196 depending on weather...

Either way, I am planning to switch to a 160 stat soon myself. I will then most likely program the fans to cut off at 180.

Re: cooling fan help
Normally these cars run around 10 degrees warmer than the T-stat. So with a 180, I would look to hold around 190* or change to a 160.
My fans run a lot. I have both fans set the same, roughly 174/185. Like stated above I like to have air pulling accross my tranny cooler and with FTRA, I know the car will get hot quickly, so I try to fight the heat before it really builds up.
I've thought about raising the fan #2 settings by 5* to see if it will run less without letting the temps get too high.
