Default crank position sensor code

My engine was sputtering off the line and at wot today. I scanned the pcm and got a "p0336 crankshaft position sensor A ckt range/perf" code. It didn't give me the SES light but I could feel the engine stuttering. Where is this sensor located and is this easy to fix? I have LS1 edit, a Vig 3200 stall, longtubes, Corsa catback, lid, and a Granatelli maf. 24,000 miles so I'm still under warrantee. If the dealer cooperates should I let them replace this or avoid the hassle and do it myself?

EFILiveV5 can fix that. View the "control panel" and under the F8 tap select "tooth error learn"

Did you just replace your pcm? That can happen sometimes if you just replaced it.

The sensor is right above the starter. You might have to pull the starter out to see it.

You might have burned one of the wire that goes to the crank sensor, they are by the #5 and #7 header primaries.

Thanks all, I'll check the wires and see. I was told I may have too much timing and to back it off. My friend works the parts counter at a GM dealership and says he has never had to order this part so it must be due to my last tune. I'll reprogram and update with the results. Thanks again everyone.

Pro Stock John, you hit it right on the head. The wire was melted from the header and shorting across it. Thanks. If you ever go to Virginia Beach, contact me and I'll buy the beers. Finally now I can sleep again.
