Default 01 WS6 240000... Rebuild or Replace

I have a 01 ws6 m6 after 237000 I blew the head gasket on it. I have rebuilt other motors but they were 4s and 6s never a 8 cylinder. I believe in my skills as a tech, but at 240000..... would I be better off just throwin a crate motor in it??? If I rip it apart and the block is in good shape should i just start my rebuild there??? What rebuild kits are out there to "hype it up" a bit but keep it street legal??? If I bore it out to a 383 or 403 what other modifications do I have to make??? Any general information on helping me tackle this project would great. THANKS.

Go to GM performance parts or engine catalog and get an LS2 or LS3 or something.

Crate motor for sure. Where the hell do you drive to put over 32,000 miles on per year?

At least buy an LS6 or LS2 crate motor. GM Parts Direct lists the different engines with their prices.

Buy a used lower mile motor and put in it....a car with that many miles really isnt worth the expense of a "brand new" motor.

I would personally get a motor from one of the sponsors before a crate motor texas speed's 347 short block is only $2900 and their assembled long block is $5900 with stage II prc heads and your choice of cam. And their 408 short block is only $3475 and $6475 for the long block

The car is in immaculate condition! Like I said all systems maintenced at regular intervals Lubricating. Cooling. Fuel, ignition, my dad just drove it, and maintained it NO RACING! ALL HIGHWAY MILES! ALL BS ASIDE, I could change the head gasket and water pump and probably get another 100000 out of her while I save for a new motor! But I was thinking of overhaulin, but lately people have been tellin me not to waste my time! So im doin my research and weighin my option! And you guys are helping out big time. Thanks. Keep it coming!
To go into further detail coolant was leaking around the water pump (small leak), and the car kept overheating! so me being lazy I put about a half a can of black pepper into the radiator (old school fix) it stopped the leak! And the car stopped overheating! But instead of me being smart and changing the water pump I used the black pepper as a FIX! And drove it for about a month more! Lmao! You can guess what happen next. It had also failed smogged due to high nox! OF COURSE!

i vote for puttin in a used motor (lower mile setup). you can get them fairly cheap, and you can sell your old motor off to someone wanting something to build for a project. I happed to know a guy that sells used motors to. pm me if ya want some prices.

Cali doesn't like you swapping "truck motors" into passenger cars though, so if you do go with an iron block you'll have to disguise it well and make sure it smogs the same... There's one person I know of that's done it recently - just used an LS1 cam, accessories, and intake manifold to get it running halfway decent. Check out the Western section some time... Lots of people in SoCal (L.A. area) willing to help a fellow F-body owner.
