Unhappy RIP Firebird

Last night, 8:15pm. We lost a member of the firebird family. This car was a great car. Great first car. Coming out from work when my shift ended at 8 I was excited to get home. I was at a red light. When the light turned green I went, unfortunately in mexico , red means go. So a little honda crashed into my passenger side and spun me around 180 degrees and i skidded into the guard rail. Don't hate on the v6 guys, its still a bird.

Pics:

glass cracked from the shock

shifter console cracked from the shock

guard rail damage

metal held up pretty nice. guard rails suck!

That's fixable...plus, you got those new-looking tires on the car.

Glad you weren’t hurt. The car looks twisted up to me which totals it.

I’d say it’s an opportunity to slip into a 98 or newer LS1 V-8 ride.

What are the insurance laws in Mexico? Isn't the other guy liable?

Gathering from the amount of uninsured people from Mexico we have here in TX, I'm willing to bet there isn't much inforcement on insurance there. I think we're nearing 1/3 of motorists in TX are uninsured...

...and all the legal people will have to pay higher premiums. Isn't socialism great?? Instead of dealing with illegal scumbags it is easier for everyone else to pay.

Sorry about your loss. I lost my 01 Red T/A several years ago to a driver who was too old to be driving (82) and forgot which pedal was the brakes. We here in Ca. have the same problems with the drivers from South of the Border. I cringe whenever I drive around here. Good luck on finding your next bird....

i know some insurance companies in the States won't cover cars in mexico. I.E. if you're an american insured motorist and you take your car across the border and your car gets damaged, the insurance won't cover it because you were in mexico. i've actually seen little "mexico insurance" shops near the border where you can buy temporary insurance while you're in mexico. so for those who take their cars across the border, i would call my insurance company and make sure they would cover my car if it gets damaged down there. but i would never take my TA to mexico to begin with, i'd drive my beater.

Not to sound like a dick but what the point of bringing a 94 v6 bird back to life?

that sucks.... oh well, time to move on to bigger and better things. I mean... the death of a v6 firebird is like the death of saddam hussein... now that its gone, it's time to make some better changes.

I was wondering the same thing. Its upgrade time. LS1 f-bodies are cheap. Might be cheaper to buy a 98 LS1 rather than fix that.

Default lt1

Car has been declared totalled. I found a nice 94 firebird formula for pretty cheap. I'll prolly get that. I want to do an lt1 to lt4 conversion by this summer if i get it.

Sorry for your loss and I am glad you're alright, but like others have said, time to upgrade and get a V8. But that is what I would do.

Not everyone wants and/or can afford a V8. I for one was in that same boat when I was younger. Now that I can afford one it's a different story, but in my early 20's it was hard making those high insurance payments plus a car payment at the same time.
