Default Who uses car covers for their firebird?

I'm just wondering what success or failures people have had before I invest in one. I'm tired of having to wash it every time pollen, or dust and grass get on it from the mower. Plus they protect from the sun and rain too correct?

Thumbs up

YES, I actually use 2 in the winter, a soft fleece like lined cover (satin cover king) and then over that one of those SLP covers to keep the dust off of cover #1...see pic of cover#1 and you can see the gray cover # 2 sitting on lawn mower

Haven't used mine in some time.. I bought a cheap one when I lived in an apartment complex. It did it's job of keeping the bird ****, leaves, pollen, etc off.. PITA when it rained and got wet and I had to go somewhere though.. I say worth the investment if your car is out in the element all of the time.

I used to use a 30th SS SLP cover when mine used to sit outside. But that was about 10 years or so ago. It was a good car cover but I sold it to somebody that had a 30th SS.

Now it just sits in the garage...

I currently use one for in the garage to keep off the dust. Have used and evolution 4 cover for an older muscle car that was outside for an extended period with decent results but you have to watch for any rub points. Especially on a windy day the cover will be constantly rubbing the paint somewhere so make sure the inside of your cover is soft.

If you leave a wet cover on your car and it stays wet for a couple of days (repeated rain) you might find some nasty stuff starting to grow on the inside of the cover. Also on a windy day make sure the cover is properly secured across the underside of the car or you might come out to find your cover has turned into a baloon and blown away.

Other big PITA was getting the cover cleaned. You will have to find an industrial washer to get the thing clean since a regular washer will just wad it up and wash parts of it.

I gotta be honest. I found them to be a complete pain in the ***. If it wasnt secured 100% properly, wind would pull it off. When it rained and you wanted to go somewhere and the cover wasnt dry, where do you put it? My thought process is that pollen only gets bad for 2 months of the year. If you put a fresh coat of polish/wax on your car twice a year, then a weekly wash is plenty to maintain the finish for a car kept outside in the elements...

Or you could buy a house with a garage like I did

I use a custom California car cover. Mines garage kept. My only concern about an outdoor car would be storms trying to pull the cover off. My cars never left outside and if I have to leave it out I put it inside the trailer covered. I use NOAH on mine. It's both indoor and outdoor but I use it indoors only. Once in a while when I need the garage to work on my other cars or trucks I use it outside for the daytime and put the car in at night.

i also had that concern. i bought 4 of the plastic Antenna Grommets (http://www.calcarcover.com/img%5Cgrommet.jpg). i placed them both between the wheelbase like the that comes with the covers but i moved them closer to the tires for additional tie down points. the elastic hold the forward and aft ends on good and the three driver side to passenger side tie downs over just the one holds really good with bungee cords in high winds. the more snug fit keeps dirt from getting under the cover a bit better and keeps the cover more in place over flapping around which could cause scratching if big pieces of "FOD" get caught up underneath
