1998 Trans Am Dash Overlay
Ok, so I bought a 1998 T/A back in Feb. and I want to change out the red lights on the dash for blue (bright LED's). I saw in a magazine where they did this to a 2000(?) T/A and it looked bada**. Does anyone know where to get a different overlay? I pulled the gauge cluster to look at the back side and it just has clear bulbs so there is obviously a red film or something between the black cover and the circuitry. Any help would be great.
Thanks for you time guys.

A google search for 6le will also help.

The LED's are easy, just get some from superbrightleds.com and all you have to do is take the instrument cluster out as one piece and they plug into the back of it. Nothing complicated at all. The main thing in your car is that I do believe that like you are saying, the stock Trans Am overlay is tinted so that the light comes through in red

In order to get a different color, you would need a clear overlay by either removing the red film or getting a new overlay (6LE). You will also need to replace the cluster bulbs with whatever color you want. This would be the time to switch to LEDs. Do a search for the write-ups on here.
