Default Is there such a thing as an 85 WS6 trans am?

So rescently my brother bought all original 85 pontiac trans am 305 tpi A4 to keep as a cruiser.

The car has black and gold trim and on the dashboard does say "performance package" It has t tops, power everything, A/C, tape deck, beige leather interior, no airbags, disk brakes all around

He is telling me that its a WS6... i myself dont think so for some reason...

But both of are not really familiar with 3rd gens.

So is this 85 in fact a WS6? I can check the codes as well to see what they say.

Thanx... keep in mind, im new to 3rd gens

all 3rd gen formulas had WS6 suspension. however, it was an option on trans ams, for some reason. so there are 3rd gen trans ams without WS6 susp. if its all original, check the RPO codes for proof. im not a 3rd gen guru, but im fairly sure it was an option in 1985. either way, read the code to find out for sure.

WS6 started in 78 and continued until 92. Then 96-02.

3rd gen Formula's didn't start until 87.

if you dont have your rpo sheet (either in center console, or in the rear side compartment) then look fr tags on your 4 coil springs with 3 letters on them. You could also measure your sway bars too. Let me know what you find.

"Performance Suspension" is usually a good indicator of WS6

i own a '87 formula 350 and it came new with WS-6 suspension...as stated above, all '85 trans-am's came with 305cid and with and without tpi....but '85 was the first year that they offered 16inch wheels with245/50/16 tires ...the formula didn't start until '87 and believe this or not i actually seen a '91 formula 350 WS-6 with rear drum brakes...ordered as such....'85's were really nice and love 3rd gens...do not believe it is a true WS-6 ...but can be made into one if that is what he wants....good luck with it and try and post some pic's...
