Default need some help please

i have a 2001 ws6 trans am auto
my temp gauge creeps up to the redline on the highway
the air dam is in place
the fans turn on
the thermastat opens
and i think i bled all air from the system
the car runs fine and doesn't boil over
when i turn the heater on the temps goes back to normal with in a minute and stays there
any ideas?

thanks

Check water pump? Possible heater core restriction. A system flush isn't a bad idea too.
