About to start cutting the trunk panel..
Isn't it dangerous from the amount of sparks alone to do the port hole/pump change mod with the tank in place? I have a lot of experience controlling the Dremel cutter well, but I am worried about sparks. The tank is empty. Sure love to change this pump.
Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks!

Lol, I have actually welded on some metal tanks. What I was taught to do is take a hose from the exhaust pipe and put the other end into the gas tank filler neck and let the car run for a good 10-15 minutes. The exhaust gases will displace the fuel vapors and make it safer to work on.

The tank is sealed, so unless you have a leak that you're concerned about I don't see why there would be an issue. In my opinion, welding sfc's right next to the fuel line is worse. Just find the template online and stick to cutting those measurements, only cut through the metal, you don't need to jam your cutting disk through as far as it will go and you'll be fine. Keep a damp towel on hand to grab the sparks so you don't burn your interior up though.
