Default Does anyone here drive their Firebird in the snow?

I want to know if its worth getting winter tires for the firebird since I will be selling the rims that are currently on it. Does anyone here drive in the snow? (not trying to sell tires, just trying to get a feel for the worth/return on invesment for when I sell them here.)

Nope. I did it once to get it from my house to the shop where I was storing it at. Roads were clear as can be in WNY in winter; and it was once of the scariest drives ever.

Black Ice + bald 275 Nitto DRs = HOLY **** HOLD ON.

note - VERY little scares me driving; especially winter driving. That did.

Lots of people do. I daily drove mine for the first five years I owned it. 76 mile round-trip commute. I'd make it in when the people that lived just a few miles from work couldn't seem to get in. If you use your head and drive with some common sense, they're just fine in the snow.

I think it really depends on how far you have to drive. Back in highschool when I had my 98' V6 Bird I drove it to school in the snow and did fine. It was only a couple miles..my car also had the "2nd" option which seemed to help. Just drive slow, mabye throw some weight in the back and you will be fine

If it's a manual, don't even try it.

If it's automatic, it's okay but still a bad idea to drive rear wheel drive vehicle in the snow.

The snow around here is usually pretty wet stuff. Last year I pulled my car out of the garage and got stuck, in my driveway, right in front of the garage, in 3 inches of snow.

So, no I don't try that anymore.

Used to, when I had it. Weigh the back down, run sensible tires, and you should be fine. However, if you have another option, like a DD, I would use that.

I live in Wyoming and drove 2wd trucks everyday since I was 16 without a single problem in the snow..

But my f bodys?? Helllll no. I don't care what anyone says in here, they are about the worst car on the planet in snow.

And even when I did... I GOT REAR ENDED!! Oh the irony! Don't do it. End of story

LMFAO! These f-bodies are not snow friendly! If you try to drive one in the snow you'll know why I say this. If you live on flatlands yes it will go in snow below a couple inches. If you stop on the slightest grade with snow on the road your f$$&ed! On the other hand if your old lady is a big fat chick, stuff her in the trunk and see what happens!

I drove my lt1 six speed thrugh 3 winters, and this current car, one day. never again. bought a truck, nice pice of mind. the problem for me is not so much the snowy conditions, as much as the people that cant drive.

Yea, I'm a winter driver. Got our first snowfall yesterday and did pretty good. I installed 215/60/16's on SLP "take off" Trans Am rims that my brother bought from SLP when he got his Firehawk. If I could put on bicycle tires I would. What I'm getting at is install the skinniest winter tire you can get your hands on. You want to have a tire that will cut through the stuff and get the underlying grip that is available to you, makes a huge difference when you do. Can't let the horrible look of your car with the skinnies get in the way... lol
I also went with TOYO winters, the G-02 Plus with Mocrobit tech. They actually use crushed Walnut shells in the compound to give the tire "spikes" for added traction. Seems like a great tire so far, but again, only one trip on them yet!

I've actually found the manual easier to drive in the snow since you have more control over the car, as well as making it easier to go up and down hills. RWD is not bad to drive in snow as long as you know how to drive it and aren't WOT everywhere you go. Snow tires or even all seasons and the 4th gens do just fine.
