I had an 87 and I put headers on it. I disconnected the air pump, removed it and the lines, and installed the headers. No problems because the air pump system is not tied to the computer.

The air pump is belt driven and I can't remember which side its on. Yank it off there. Just follow the lines that are on the manifolds and take it all off.

If you're looking for other stuff. An air foil in the throttle body helps. If you got questions. Shoot me a message.

It's on the passenger side and since yours is an 86 it's driven by a dedicated belt. You can also remove tha air lines but there is 1 line on the back of the firewall running down to the cat. Either remove it or cap it off

finally got some time to actually do some stuff my brother has been in the hospital. but to put the headers on did you have to lift the engine any? cause it looks pretty tight in there.
