Default Getting 16mpg on mixed driving. That seems low

I have been getting about 16MPG on my 98 A4 ws6. Car has 114K on it. I would say about 35% of it is hwy driving at 70-75 mph. Not really getting stuck in traffic either. I know I won't see the MPG of the 6spd cars but I was expecting to average about 18-19mpg with my driving. My friends 98 base vette A4 averages about 20-21 with mixed driving. Alignment is good but not perfect and has fresh oil and air filter. Any ideas where else I should be looking.

ive never understood how people get good gas mileage on fbodies. My a4 lt1 got around 13mpg wether i babied it or hit the gas hard. My m6 ls1 gets around 15 shifting at around 2100rpms. This week im driving with a heavy foot, and i seem to be getting the same or better gas mileage. I wont know until i fill up.

Also im going to start using a different gas station. I use arco cus its the closest one to work, but i keep hearing bad stuff about their gasoline. This is pretty much mixed driving too.

where do you gas up OP?

I get 20 in the city if I let the car warm up and drive easy, 18 if I am romping on it or revving up a lot. And 30-32 on the interstate cruising between 75 and 85.

I wish I got 16 mpg. Consider that average. Kwik Trip isn't cheap gas.. It's one of the better pumps.

Where abouts in WI are you from OP?

I got 20.5 mpg hand calculated on my first tank of gas... that's with a couple pulls, a burnout, a couple fast take offs, etc... I'm thinking if driven normally its going to be 22-24mpg... running 87 octane

I didn't take too many trips to Eau Claire. I grew up around the Milwaukee area (Pewaukee, Brookfield, Sussex). I took trips up to Green Lake a lot. I miss good ol' WI. Sorry to take this off topic OP.

That is a tad low for a basically stock LS1. Maybe have a compression check done, check plugs, fluids, etc...

87 octane WTF?! Premium is required for LS1 F-Bodies! A guy I used to know put 87 in his Z28 and it would barely even stay running, much less run well or smooth! We told him to drain his tank and put premium in it with some octane booster or fuel system cleaner but he never did. Ended up having a bunch of Detonation and screwed up the engine.
