i just bought a 95 Trans am but unfortunately the motor went on the way home so now im kinda stuck will a motor out a 96 caprice edition work in my car all tips and advice are greatly appreciated

Some '96 Caprices came with a LT1 motor in them, but you have to be careful because it looks very close to the L99 motor externally. If it has an LT1 in it, the 8th digit of the VIN will be "P". If it's W, it's a L99.

All LT1s have a large "327" on the side of the block, while the L99s have "4.3" - meaning "4.3 Liters of Displacement".

Also 95 = OBD I and 96 = OBD II

So, your 96's front cover may have a Crankshaft Position Sensor, while the original motor may not.

also a B body LT1 has iron heads and lower compression/horsepower. they were rated at 260 from the factory IIRC.
