Default Alternator has put it in its resignation.

I've been waiting for this since I got the car in the summer. 99 TA, bone stock.

Today, the voltage has been in the yellow everytime I drive the car but shoots back up to ~ 13-13.5 if the revs get over 3500 and stays there for a few minutes and drops back down into the danger zone. ( good battery, terminals and grounds are good )

I know the common suggestion is to replace the factory alt with a 145amp out of a 5.3 Truck.

1stly, would this be the correct alternator? http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/more...421&cc=1431694

Its listed under 03 Escalade, 5.3L, 145amp, 6 groove pulley, OE Delco.

2ndly, what exactly do I need to make this work? I'm having a hard time finding out if you need a new connector or not, any help is appreciated.

I think that's the right alternator. You want an AD244.
It uses the same connector, but I think there are different variations of connectors, so watch out.

You wont use the rear, little fbody bracket.

I did manage to use the stock belt, but didn't like how tight it was on the pulleys, so I went to autozone and got the next size up.

The stock one is a 790K6 (790 cm? k6= ribs) and I think I went with a 795K6 or 800K6. It's worked great for years.

Thanks for the info ROC. Looking at all that, I may just bite the bullet and get a stocker replacement.

I'm not running any aftermarket electrical components ( or anything for that matter ) and I don't plan to. Seems like everyone who needs to upgrade is running LED's, HIDs or some Audio equipment.

The biggest issue is that its a major inconvenience to have the car out of commission for any amount of time ( full time college student, hard to get rides with my class schedule ) and I don't have anywhere I can swap the alt myself. I really don't trust any of the local shops to go chopping wires correctly either.

I think it's a great upgrade regardless.
Get one from a junkyard or eBay

Guess I must have misread the 2nd topic. Doesn't look like the bigger cables that were being talked about would be necessary in my case.

The AD244 I found on Rockauto is a 4 pin so it looks like it will be close enough to swapping in a stock unit and grabbing a bigger belt.

if you go with the ad244 then DEFINITELY do the "big 3", hell I would suggest them even on a completely stock alternator, but would totally do the ad244 if I was you because I personally feel the stock alts are to small for this car to start with.

Any particular reason why? Will the AD244 put out too much power for the stock system to handle?

Edit : Went with the stock AD230 Alt to avoid any possible headache and I need it replaced ASAP. I don't feel like the AD244 upgrade is really justifiable with conditions as they are.

Thanks for all the info guys, I'll definitely save this incase I do eventually upgrade.

Personally I feel the stock wiring is undersized, it may technically (on this short a run) be rated to handle the alt output, but wires get old and need replacing, I know I saw an improvement (when cold) in alternator output even on my stock about to die (it died a few months later) alternator.
