Question 1999 Pontiac Firebird HELP!!!

Hi, my name is Michael, I'm a proud owner of a 1999 Firebird, 3.8L convertible. Now, normally, I've been able to do most of my own repairs and it's never been that bad, however, I've come across two codes.

P0405 and P0403

P0403 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation Circuit Malfunction

P0405 EGR Sensor A Circuit Low

For reference...

The problem occurred when I stopped at my dad's place, left the car running for about 10-15 minutes while in park and then started driving it. It drove fine til I came to a complete stop in which it bogged down and cut out. (engine) I went to start it again, and it did start but for about 2 seconds then bogged out again. After that, it would only crank and those are the two codes that keep getting repeated time and time again.

I replaced the egr valve although when the replacement came and the gasket didn't look right. I went with it and dremel'd out the sides where the bolts go through to get a proper fit, but it hasn't fixed any problems.

No other codes, just the two. I have it at a shop at the moment, and I'm getting jittery just thinking about it, but I would like to be a bit more knowledgeable on the two codes its throwing and if those are reason enough that the car wouldn't be starting.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you all!
