I think that is a question you have to ask yourself, is it worth putting the VALUE OF THE CAR into the car.
but on the other hand we are talking Lingenfelter here, and if there is anybody that knows an LS1 it would be those guys.

Would you leave it 100 percent stock? I was thinking just putting the kooks true duals on with header but it's pretty pricey I just want it to have that muscle car sound. But hate to take stock exhaust off but it is so quiet

If your looking to drop that kind of money and have good driveability get a procharger and exhaust. You'll also have the ability to add power very easily later should you want it. That's way too much $ for 400hp, your paying for the name on the front of the shop.
I wouldn't worry too much about mileage on the car, I've got 18k miles on mine and do what I want to it. But I also keep all the stock parts just in case. It's just a car, enjoy it while you've got it.
Edit: you'll also need a good clutch for much over 400rwhp, that's another $1000 or so installed.

Investing $12,000 extra into any car is really too much unless you keep the car for a very long time. If you can see that happening, then go for it. Keeping the car 10 years averages out to a lousy $1,200 per year. That would be a lot of enjoyment over those 10 years. Unfortunately life happens and sometimes you can't keep the car as long as you had planned. That's where you can get hurt. It's a very personal decision to make and really depends on your finances as well. The main thing is to enjoy your ride. Make it whatever you want.

Dont Do it!, UNLESS you have two Birds. One for Show and One for GO!!! Your Car is also worth more than 12K all day Long. Easy 14.... I agree with the Rest on those mods are just a name. Heads, Cam, and Long tubes and you will be at that power for like 4K and can have a fun weekend doing it! Start a thread with some info on your New Car I want to see it!

I don't see any reason not to modify and do what you want with your car. If you're really concerned, keep all the original parts & you can sell the car with the parts OR restore the car back to original/stock.
I agree that $12K is a lot to only achieve 420 HP.
-Kooks headers are very good but very expensive.
-I don't see the value in porting the stock LS1 heads-let alone "polishing" them, which really isn't done anymore. The word "polishing" is just a sales trigger word these days. There are heads on the market that are waaay better right out of the box-with all the features you mentioned LPE would do.
-Porting and polishing the original LS1 throttle body won't bring you any gains.
-Using the original intake manifold-it's a LS6 manifold in this case, won't bring you any gains.
The point is you can make better HP numbers while spending a bunch less money.
