Antenna Change Help!

Antenna Change Help! Hi,
I have a 2000 WS6 TA and i am wanting to go with a shorty/stubby antenna change. Stock one went out and don't really like the motorized one, especially for the price and look. I have made many phone calls and everyone is saying i will need a adapter. After looking at some. I really don't understand what the adaptor could be for.
Is it suppose to make the end different? it ends with the male side. Am i suppose to get a female end to female end?
As in on the cable? Or does the adapter change how it mounts up on the actual car?
