Default high pitch noise

I can hear a high pitch whine from the interior, sounds like a turbo.
I thought it was the tach because the noise was tied to the rpm but its not the tach. Seems like the noise is only there while driving and the car is warmed up so its not the air pump

Do you have an aftermarket shifter? Good chance this is normal noise from the T56, and an aftermarket shifter conducts more of it into the interior than a stock shifter. Less noise when cool due to the trans fluid being thicker.

Thanks John, so you have an LS car. No speedo cables here Steve.

Does the sound change with the AC/heater blower speed? It could als be vacuum related.
