Default Paint Bubbling on 2002 Firehawk hood

I am new to the forum and have a couple of questions about a 2002, 34,000 mile, one owner, well maintained with records, Firehawk that I just bought. The sail roof panel is bubbled so I'm having it replaced and painted at a Chevy body shop. The other issue with the car is the bubbles on the front of the hood. The Chevy body shop manager is afraid if they sand and repaint the hood it could become worse than it is now. He tells me it is moisture that gets between the SLP hood panels. Has anyone had the same problem? Has anyone had a Firehawk hood sanded and repainted?

I have the same problem with my 98 SS hood. the hood is made of SMC and must be repaired with materials suited for SMC.

This is not entirely correct. Only the very late '98 panels will bubble (build dates of 05/98 or later; April cars might be risky as the data is limited but all seem fine to date, while March and earlier are issue free). The vast majority of '98s are fine, and this information is important for those looking for used panels.

All '99+ cars are subject to the condition, however.

I bought my replacement sail panel from 6liter eater in California. They have been manufacturing them for about 2 years. They are fiiberglass.
