LS1 Build - Cam
I have a 2000 Pontiac Trans Am WS6 that is a stock LS1 (M6) except for a SLP Exhaust. I would like to put a Vindicator camshaft (240/244 .605/.596 112 LSA) in my car. I am wondering what all I would need to enhance to handle this cam. 4.10 gears? Will I have enough clearance between the pistons and valve? My car will see more street than strip. Looking to someday turn the car into a drag car, probably after my next deployment.

In my opinion that cam is too big for a stock motor, especially if its mostly street driven. When are your future plans for the car? Months, years? Drag car would be built a lot different than street car. Personally I'd address the intake & install long tube headers before the cam, or at least at the same time. I like 4.10s with 6 speed.

The vindicator cam is a recommended cam for the ls1. By street driven i drive less than a mile to work and back. I've seen a trans am with the vindicator and 4.10s and she drives on the street. I will be installing with the cam new pushrods and rockers. I will also be redoing the rear end. The car will transform into a drag car in five years or so. Looking to build up the ls1 for now. My main questions are what else would i need to replace to hold the cam?

Def need change valve springs (and valve seals while youre there). I think a trunion upgrade to stock rockers would be fine. I'd upgrade the timing chain as well as the oil pump to a melling or comparable.. That cam is overkill for stock heads, intake and exh manifolds. Just my opinion. Need good tuner to make it driveable. I wouldnt use it but everyone has different tolerance in what they are willing to deal with driveablilty wise.
