I dont know if this is the correct thread but I might be doing a rebuild on a Trans Am i might get. Its a 2001 Trans Am WS6 Hurst Edition (6spd). The owner said to get a rebuild kit and head bolts. Anyone know of any good sites or any links to a good buy? Not looking for performance really but keep it under $1000- $800. Thanks.

The owner said that theres a lifter knock and a bad head gasket and that a top end rebuild kit comes with a head gasket. He has LS7 Lifters for the car.

Sounds fishy to me. Do you know for certain it has a blown gasket

He says it misfires when he starts it and that white smoke comes out if the exhaust. I drove it yesterday and the knock gets louder and the rpm goes up. The white smoke i can confirm.

You could probably find a set of 243/799s heads which will increase hp for 500 $ or less
MLS head gaskets aren't that much.
be sure to change that oil ASAP

Run Faster. If its such a simple fix - have the owner do it and then tell him that you'll buy the car off of him afterwards, when its running correctly.

I'm sure he'll tell the truth. There's nothing that brings out honesty in a person more than having them delve in to being a used car salesman!

I would be worried about rod bearings withe that knock. Does it have good oil pressure?
