Wheel style opinion: Black or silver trend those that switched

Wheel style opinion: Black or silver trend those that switched
I know this crosses into wheel forum too BUT it is specific to the TA since I feel each car looks different with the same rim.
I have a Black TA that I will add a Hood too. Right now it is getting repainted all black. It has the stock 16" 5 spoke chrome rims. They are in great shape but more so then looks I want a wider tire for traction. (Safety and performance) rain, wet, wheel spin, 245s on LS1 suck)
I also want some sidewall for comfort. I was looking at just 17" but I keep seeing people here regret or want to change to 18s for looks and tire selection.
So I am thinking 18x9.5 +40 wheel. 19 will look good too but for little more sidewall, muscle look then bigger tuner look I think 18s. plus cheaper for tires and wheels.
So my question: I am torn on the black or hyper silver style rim. I have tried on last few cars to go black but I come back to the lack of contrast the black gives. Looks like a dirty hub cap compared from a distance and is unnoticeable. Black on white or blue looks good but not sold yet black on black. Too much black no contrast.
I have seen the TA on here with black on black miro 111 and great photo, sick car. But from those that have battled with black or silver what are your thoughts? Did you switch back to silver, black look ok when dirty, easier to keep clean?
I feel the black rims since style doesn't pop as much is not as critical. It is more how open can the rim be so I can detail the brake setup (rotors/caliper) and put raised white letters on the tires to make it pop.
I was looking at the miro 111, hyper evo style, tsw nurburing, c7 zr1 style

Black wheels sometimes look nice, but only with a polished lip and a glossy finish. The low gloss/matte black wheels, especially with no polished lip, look foul to me.
17s are still my favorite for these cars. A few of the 18s look nice, but that's the absolute biggest I would ever consider for a 4th gen. This conversation comes up often, and lots of the 19"+ guys post pictures of their cars, some with very nice wheel designs, but they would all look better in a 17-18" version and with more tire sidewall IMO.

all, thanks for the feedback. So 3-0 Black is out and I agree with all your statements. :-)
thx for the sanity check. I have 5 kids at home. 3 boys 14-16 and they still think merc look is cool, lol. I hate it.
Every car as a kid that had black rims was ghetto. Hub cabs fell off or you had a spare on, or a cop car or taxi. Still looks the same today.

Some people like black some like chrome it's all a matter of opinion as to what pleases your eye, therefore I don't judge a car by the owners choice of wheels, and I only voice my opinion when asked. I am blessed to be wheel color blind lol.

AFS always had nice quality finishes on their ZR1 replicas.

yeah, I always have liked the black chrome look over the regular chrome and just so happened to catch the guy when he was selling his car and mentioned he would sell these to me, so I jumped on it. They aren't flawless but look pretty good for being 10 years old..I think one was stamped 2006. Not sure why more aftermarket wheel companies don't make them in black chrome..they always seem to be in high demand.

you have chrome SS wheels on your silver camaro right? I wish AFS and OE wheels made actual copies of the grand sport and ZR1 wheels instead of the squared off spoke versions..if i could find a set of real oem grand sport wheels i would buy them instead..but the ones i have seen are outrageously priced.

I know exactly what you mean about the rounded vs. squared-off/flatter spokes. Back in the early-mid 2000s, there were a few sources that sold reproductions of the rounder spoke version in 17x9, 17x9.5 and 17x11 (some even with the deep lugs like original 11" versions, vs. the current deep dish style.) Corvette Central was still selling ones just a few years ago with the original rounder spoke design in the early C4 offset (25mm I believe), but I'm not sure which spoke design is used for their 54/56mm offset version - nor if their 17x11" version is deep dish or deep lug.
I also still have a set of full silver (no polished lip) "rounder spoke" reproductions that I bought for my '02 Z28 and saved before selling the car, but they are 17x9.5"/56mm offset all-around.

Yes sir, I have correct 17x9"/50mm offset SS version in traditional chrome.

I'm still confused why there were so many different "versions" AFS sold, I've seen some with the rounded spokes, some with the deep lug center, some with both (as pictured)...but the ones I have are neither, the center lug area is the same on both the 11" and the 9.5" wheels. I've heard stories about guys buying them new from AFS and getting the squared off spoke design and no deep lug recess, and other guys getting the other version. Kinda shitty advertising on their part..don't know what the hell you're going to get.

I used to not like black wheels very much, but ever since I picked up this set in gun metal they have really grown on me. I use the shiny ones for the street 18x9 and then the gun metal for track 18x10.5. I still feel like there needs to be a contrast between the wheel itself to the tire instead of the wheel and tire looking as one.

I agree Cpt.
I do think since your car is silver the black looks good but i still like the shiney better. The black with painted calipers and bigger wheel letters, and a gloss black rim would look good. More track looking for sure.
