Question Does the (WS6) "Free Ram Air Mod" work???

With the ram air hood Baffles (WS6 hood) removed and hood sealed to the airbox, does this make any difference in power, gas milage, etc? I have heard many different stories saying no diff to very noticable. So, for those of you that have done it using a any type lid (volant, slp, etc) please give your feedback. Also please state if you have/have not de-screened the maf and/or have smooth bellow's etc.
Thanks!

I've done the modification, though it wasn't the freebie, I bought a kit online, which came with good instructions, foam seal, grommets to plug up all the holes underneath the ram air area, and some kind of inserts to put inside the air channels to funnel air right into the filter. It also came with a removable block off plate to install in case of rain. I have a K&N, SLP lid, smooth bellows, SLP MAF. I bought the kit after reading an article in High Perfomance Pontiac a few years ago. They installed it on a mostly stock TA with 3.73 gears. Said they lost a full tenth and gained 2 or more mph through the quarter. You won't really feel a differance, and if you do, it'll only be at the top end when you're moving fast enough for the ram air to actually ram air into the filter. Mileage, I don't know, she's not a daily driver so mileage isn't a matter. Rain...the only water it sees is when I wash her, so again not a concern. I did finally make it to the track for the first time a few weeks ago. Ran a 13.6, with a late launch and spun tires for 5 feet, but a 108 trap speed, which would hopefully mean all I did to her made her pull very hard at the top end, including the ram air mod.

Debaffled and sealed with foam to the air box, I have driven in the rain no problem. I have rain shields for the nostrils in case... Better gas mileage and performance on top end... I love this mod...

I have BGRA and it's been in for 2 years. I live in SoFla where we get lots and lots of heavy downpours. I drive on the highway a lot through those downpours. Early on...I used to make sure the rain blocker kit was in. After a few months I realized that no water ever got up past the filter. I now no longer use the rain blocker and I even took out the grills. Never had a problem.

If you uncomfortable with it then don't do it.

On the performance side, since my car is an auto and I always launch at the same RPM the car did pick up a .1-.2 tenths. Minimal but it did seem to help a bit. It makes the most difference about 70 mph. Every little bit helps.

Good luck!

I did it to mine I just bought the gaskit and rain gaurd and made it fit since bgra is no longer in production. to answer your question I have the whisper type lid that everyone else has, I didn't descreen my maf, and bellow shouldn't matter.. Any debre should be stopped by a oiled based air filter i.e. k&n.. I haven't had it dynoed so not sure on the benifits, but I'm gonna agree with the other post about the hp being in the higher rpm's. Went it rains I made it to were the rain blocker take a sec to put on.

Are there vendors that still sell pieces of the BGRA kit? I'd like to get the gasket to seal the hood to the airlid if they're available.

Try that Hammer. Only things available are the gasket, plate, and nostril pieces.

Do you mean thickness, or the width, of the foam. The BG kit is about 1/2in. thick, maybe same width.

The thickness from the airbox to the hood. I checked mine today (ws6) w/a ruler...seemed to be 1 1/2in to seal it. I measured several times to make sure. Does this seem right?
