Default Why?

what would the reason for our cars coming with 245's on them and the camaro's having 235's? Just wondering why GM would do that.

The Firebird is a more sporty/luxurious car.

wich is it more sporty or luxuriouse? those are polar opposites... and why would that determine a difference in tire size?

Tell that to Caddy with their XLR Roadster based on the Corvette. Same performance, more luxury

Bigger tires handle/grip better, hence the 'more sporty'. More Camaro Options are Factory on Firebirds, hence the 'more luxurious'.

Both the camaro and firebird came with either the 235 tires or the 245 if the car had the handling package on it. The 235 were the all season tires if the owner did not opt for the handling package.

I have personally never seen an LS1 Car with 235's. V6 yes but not and LS1.
LT1 F cars would come with 245's if someone optioned for the Z rated performance tire this would also get them the 155 speedometer.
But all LS1 F cars have Z rated tires the RSA was a 245 and the GSC was a 245.

No they didn't, there were many LS1 cars, most of them were Z28's (I think)- that came with H? rated tires that had a 118 MPH speed limiter set from the factory.

Like I originally said I personally have never seen a car Firebird or Camaro with 235's unless it was a 3.8. Maybe the Z28's did have them But I have never seen one. I do know for a fact that you can't get a Formula or T/A with 235's because All the Tires available on the V8 Birds were Z rated. AFAIK before `98 there were No Z rated all weather tires avaulable on an F-body.

I would be pissed if my cer were limited to that from the factory! Hell my GTP even has its factory gov set in around 126 or so, seems bizarre they would put a LSX car that low of a limiter.

Yep, stoopid as it seems GM did it - there are many threads on this problem, do a search. To my understanding Z rated tires on the Camaro were in some cases an option, and not everyone paid for the option.

Two other examples..

I do know that the cars came with either H and Z even on the V8's. The H's came with the 120 speedo (Or is it 110?), but I don't know if they were 235 or 245 :\

I'm pretty sure all the LS1 f-bodies had 245 wide tires. But, as mentioned already, there were some Z28s built that didn't have Z-rated tires and those had an early speed limiter. Several of them were in the Houston area back in 1998, and those guys were waiting desperately for the release of the Hypertech programmer to get around it. Fun times.

Pontiacs have always been the "upper level" model compared to Chevy. The Pontiacs come with more standard options (better seats, power antenna, more stereo speakers, no non-Z rated tires, pop-up headlights, equalizer on the radio, etc...).
