Default Buyers Remorse

http://www.getauto.com/autolinks_car.../x_group_id-vu

I could have bought that instead of the '01 T/A 'Vert I bought, but I couldn't afford $475 a month. I just got a new job, so now I CAN afford it, but it's too late. Boo hoo.

Yeah, I am. But it's a HAWK!

Though when I test drove it, I didn't like the way it shifted. My '01 shifts a lot smoother. The performance shifter in that hawk is rough and rigid, but that's probably because of the 13K miles. It's barely broken in.

To the average person on the street, my T/A is a hot, sharp, and sexy beast. To you guys, the hawk is vastly superior because of its increased performance and pure novelty.

Though, to a mid-20's guy living in NYC where the highway speed limit is 50 (45 on the BQE and the Jackie Robinson), what's the difference between 310 HP and 345 HP? And when I add the new intake, exhaust and headers I'll be up in that 340-350 range, so I guess no biggie.

The Hawk Hp rating in BS anyways...Ls1's are Ls1's the hawk doesn't perform any better than the T/a. It may handle a little better if it has upgraded suspension..

Hawk's are cool and kind of unique, but overall it's still a basic Trans Am or Formula with the same LS1 inside. The HP ratings on Hawks seem to be irrelevent.

You don't buy a hawk based on the HP ratings. Everyone knows that. You buy them because they are rare and more unique than the other f-bodies.

Agree. Would have been nice to have one, though only people on this and similar sites would truely appreciate it. It would take a while to explain the differences between a Firebird, Formula, Trans Am, and Firehawk.

That's going to happen no matter what model/trim level of Firebird you're driving.

I originally had my heart set on getting a Firehawk after seeing the '98 prototype in C&D w/ the fixed headlamps. But after getting refused to take an order and finding out they were delayed until '99 and they would get the same pop-ups every other Firebird had, I opted for a WS6 instead and have never regretted my decision. WS6 hood is MUCH more agressive looking, much more befitting of the "Ram Air" moniker IMO.

To make myself feel better I did some research.

In 2001, there were only 39 Triple-Black Trans Am Convertibles made with a 6-speed manual and without a WS6 or Ram Air option.

So my car is unique in that there are only 39 ever made exactly the way mine is.

Nice which # of those 39 are you?

I know someone around here as the username of 32 of 32. Can't remember the model of his ride though.

I don't know, I doubt the cars are numbered like that. The statistic of mine being one of 39 is similar to one of those far-fetched baseball statistic that they make up on the spot, it has no real meaning.

And that 32 of 32 guy has a special trim of T/A that was after-market made, but GM approved......I think. Plus it's orange.

Right here!!! I think it would be very difficult to find out which # of a Trans Am would be though - as they can direct from the factory. The only reason I know mine is through Marty @ ASC (who must have been having a slow day at the office) when he emailed me all the data on my conversion!!!

No - not aftermarket - it's a WS6.

So what's SOM? And if it's a regular WS6, can Marty @ ASC tell me about my car?

Not if your car isn't a WS6.

BTW, what is a "regular" WS6?

Where did you find that info? All I've been able to find on '01s are:

2001
Firebird 7191
Firebird Convertible 1149
Trans Am 2596
Trans Am Convertible 396
Trans Am WS6 7073
Trans Am Convertible WS6 796
Total 21436

The only year's I've seen a color breakdown is '98s and '02s. Only year I've seen that broken down further to transmission etc. is the '02s.
