Default i bought Frankenstein look and ...

i'll have pictures up soon but first let me introduce her:

79 TA with 78 nose job,
4.10 gears ( and damn if they don't howl like a pack of wolves when under load)
stage 2 TH-400 with shift kit and 2400 stall converter
350 motor out of a 72 lemans rebuilt with cam and heads, edelbrock intake and carb
March pulley system
long tube headers
electric fuel pump
4 core aluminum radiator
electric fan
half *** interior
needs paint ...

NOW:
this thing is loud.... wait not loud... LOUD

did i mention loud? my damn teeth were chattering inside the car.
the setup goes like this:
long tube headers----> 10 inches of pipe (3 inch diameter)----> flowmaster 40 series -----> 20 inches or so pipe out the back of the muffler and that's it.
no cats no resonators no nothing, this thing is just too much. so the question is how do i make this thing bearable when driving i absolutely hate the way it is right now. mufflers sit directly under the floorboards and the only thing holding up the WHOLE EXHAUST SYSTEM are the headers. no brackets no nothing, complete hack job

mufflers are 3 inch in and out, I'm not sure what this does to bottom end torque/performance but I've never been a fan of 3 inch pipes on a non-forced induction car.

what should i change it to? looking for the best bang for the buck here not gonna throw hundreds of dollars at this.

Also, where is the stock location of mufflers for this car supposed to be?

high pitched whine coming from the distributor shaft i believe too but i got a remedy for that, going with HEI distributor

Thanks... many more Q's will follow as i uncover things. I wish i knew the cam spec and which heads this thing has.

please comment/answer these I'm gonna rely heavily on this board to tackle this car.

Sounds like the whole car is a hackjob..But heres a tip .. Take it to a muffler shop have them hang a decent exhaust and run it out the back.

Ya got any pics? lol

as for the exhaust issue. unless you wanna cut the diameter of the pipe down slightly i dont think your gonna be able to do much without hurting performance a lot

i just posted up on your other thread. your car is not that loud. its vibrating and banging against everything. my 78 TA has headers and true dual flowmasters. its sounds nice, loud, but nowhere near earth shattering. the cam and heads might add to it, but your car is a hackjob....the entire exhaust is rattling. thats the noise. go to a decent shop and have them weld brackets with rubber isolaters. dont bother with a stock muffler.

not going to a stock muffler, was trying to figure out where to relocate these, they're too big and ATM they're hanging so low that they're only about and inch or so off the ground.

i gotta find another spot under the car to hang these mufflers but where's they're at right now, under the front seats is not a good place for them, not enough clearance.

and the noise i'm talking about is not the rattle of the pipes banging against the underside of the car, it also has that but the noise is actual exhaust drone.

gonna take it to my friends exhaust shop (they actually make headers with mandrel benders and all but i'm sure he can figure something out).

Thanks for the help

with no brackets i can almost 100% say that your exhaust is leaking like a mo fo. It needs hangers bad.

If you want the best bang for the buck.
http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...10002_80026_-1I had a guy just put this on his 78 and I sound good, for me this would be the best(cheap) option. Not as loud as a flowmaster setup but you still have a heathy rumble.

The stock location between the leaf spring and the bottom of the quarter panel. I was impressed with the quality and I came With everything!!!!! Hangers, clamps and the reducers built right into the primaries. It much easyer to got this rought than try to peice what you have together, and it cheaper than having it don at a shop.

$700 (max) is what I'd have paid. That's assuming the drive train is as good as it is, and the rear end doesn't have a bajillion miles on it. Not to mention it looks like the painted undercoating as a base, then painted the blue over it >_> I don't paint and I think I could've done better with a rattle can.

I hate to knock your car, but that's just the impression I get right away. If it's a winter/family project, then it's perfect

having a 79 myself, I see some things you should know.
The door panel normally hang on the door skin, you just got to get those plastic push tree things for the back of them. also there is a bezel to get for the door handle that you need. Also you are missing the bars under the hood that bolt from the fender to the Front radiator support. I saw also that your gauge cluster is not original it should only have a speedo up to 100 and 6K Tach. The one you got looks like its from a 75 Model or older.
