Default Roof Rack / Ski Rack any suggestions?

Anyone know of a roof rack or something that would go on the back hatch for carrying skis, i keep having to throw mine inside and allready have a couple of scratches.

I looked at Thule and Yakima but they dont list anything.

Anyone tried to make one?

And before anyone says it, yes i know i shouldnt be putting a roofrack on a Firebird! But mine is a daily driver, much more ecconomical than my truck and can haul me my girlfriend, dog, kid and a decent amount of gear and if just so much fun.

Thanks

Pete

me too but the scratches are on the car not the skis! the center armrest gets marked from the steel edges on the skis!

.

I made a surfboard rack for my 2nd gen. Straps & those tubes we use on enclosed trailer wires for the rear door.
Foam or plastic things, about 4' long. Buy at a pool store. Probably figure something out??
It's easier to leave windows down on the way to beach, than sking?? Good luck.

hah hah hah funny! i guess some owners are opinionated about whats acceptable for a Firebird huh?

So..... i've decided to make one that will clamp onto the rear hatch from the underside seeing as the roof is out because ot the T tops.

After that its furry dice hanging from the mirror, fluorescent leapoard print seat covers, pink steering wheel cover, oversize spinner plastic hub caps, mirrored window tint, racing stripes, a 12" dia tailpipe and a rear aerofoil wing the size of a picnic table.

What do you think?

Check out the 2000 Firebird Accessories Brochure in my sticky in this forum. GM actually offered a ski rack for the fourth-gen 'birds.

i had a Saris roof rack on my '92 formula. it worked out pretty good for my mountain bike. their load bar system is pretty easy set up.

personally i would just lay the skis inside back to front, laying on the armrest and wrap the skies in some bath towels to keep from scratching anything up

thanks guys, i did see that roof rack when i was searching but its just for the hardtop and wont work on the T top.

So i took a long lunch on Friday at work and knocked one up using some flat bar and electrical conduit, it clamps onto the rear hatch with a socket head screw underneath, i lined the clamps with rubber so it doesn't scractch the paint, it works pretty good, i just have to mount my ski clamps now.

I'll try and find my digital camera and post a pic.

Oh, you're right about that.....I didn't even think about the differences between the hardtop and t-top drip rails (and I have one of each too).

Be sure to post up pics. I can add it to the miscellaneous sticky in case someone else would like to check out your handy work.
