Stock, the LT1's were rated at or around 275 hp, the LS1's started at 305hp and went up from there. The LS1's, however, usually put out around 330+hp stock.

The LS1 wins. The LT1 was rated at 275 HP while the LS1 was rated at 305 (or 325 for WS6 or SS models). But that was all LIES!
GM didn't want the Trans Am stepping on the Corvettes toes so they underrated the LS1 F-body to keep the vette boys happy. The reality is the 98-02 Fbodies had the same 345 HP LS1 engine that the C5 Corvettes had.
Most auto LT1's made 240-255 rwhp and would run the quarter mile around 14.1 @ 99 (give or take). Well driven manuals could pull off a high 13 second quarter mile.
Most auto LS1's made 285-300 rwhp and would run the quarter mile around 13.6 @ 103 (give or take). Well driven manuals could pull off a high 12 second quarter mile.

I just wanted to mention that there is some over lap, at least on paper between the LS1 and the LT1. There were LT1's rated at HP ratings that over lapped the LS1's, however, the LT1 rated at 305hp, was not over rated, or at least not as much, as the LS1's rated at the same horsepower.

got another question: stock to stock same rules...who would win, stock trans am v's stock corvette...both cars the same year model say a 2000. then it would be a matter of weight right? if they had the same motors rated at the same hp...???

From a stop, I actually had him, because he couldn't launch without traction problems. However, from a roll, he had me, driver skill wasn't a factor and neither was traction at that point.
The corvette is faster, because its lighter... but its a fun/fairly close race.

Generally there is about a 40HP difference to the wheels between an LT1 and an LS1.
I'll give you an Example also
Ran my Buddy in his `96 SS M6 w/3.73's back in `98 when my car was New,
Stock down to the filter `98 Formla M6 HdTp. We ran from a 20 roll so there was No advantage to either of Us. I pulled a car on him in every gear and I was still learning to shift right.

That is absolutely false that a LT1 pulls on a LS1 from a dig stock vs stock. With the same gears and no driver error the LT1 and LS1 are dead even through first gear or so and the LS1 will start pulling away from that point. I've had several races when I was stock with a buddies 95 A4 Z28 and we were always dead even 0-40, I pulled a car 40-60 and it got ugly 60+.
I've seen several videos showing a similair outcome and the average 1/8 mile times of stock vehicles favor the LS1 by a couple of tenths and a couple mph. Again this is stock vs stock, equal drivers, same tranny & gears, ect.

I had a 96 T/A and I used to go to the track here in TX pretty often. I raced Stock LS1s quite a few times and it's like quite a few guys say on here: Close at the beginning, and ugly by the win light. Now that I have my LS1, I don't even bother messing with LT1s. Not to sound elitist, but unless they have something done, it's a waste of gas.

I can remember standing around parking lots on Saturday nights in the early 1990s hearing people say "Yeah well it can hang with 'em off the line, but it gets ugly after that" Referring to the L98 and the new LT1 that everyone was envious of.
