Default I've got a tapping noise, can you help.?

I've got an 02' TA with a built 346, and a turbo.. I was out playing around last night and was coming to a stop and down shifted and accidently went to 1st instead of 3rd, and I pulled into the parking lot and noticed a tapping noise. The tapping noise speeds up when I bring the RPM's up. and slows down when the RPM's slow down. Any ideas at what It might be, and how I can check it out..? Thanks....

How high did it rev when you put it into first? You might have spun a bearing...

I didn't notice the RPM's but It went pretty high. I was down shifting, and went to 1st instead of 3rd....

Could be a lifter also.. Is it a tapping or knocking noise.. Could be a spun crankshaft bearing.. I had one in an Iroc and it sounds like it could be that..

How do I check the lifters. I'm pulling the motor out as we speak. I don't really know what to look for. And the spun bearing. Will it be obvious if that's the case..?

Could it be an exhaust leak at all? I bottomed out a little on my brother's driveway, and now I have a tapping sound.
