Default Trans am security light

Occasionally when I try to start the car the security light comes on and I cant start it. After waiting a while it went off, and it doesn't happen every time. Anybody have an idea what this could be? Its a '98 m6 Trans am. Thanks.

Might be the little chip in the ignition key.

Mine does that too. Not often though. My friend at the local GM dealership said the ignition cylinder is going out. I plan on swapping out to an automatic and thinking about doing a push button start on in.

There is a wire on the ignition that reads the key. You have to take the colume apart and look for a yellow wire. I just fixed mine. Had the same problem for years. It gets worse and on my friends car broke with no warning.
