Default Which is faster: A4 LS2 GTO or A6 G8 GT?

Stock to stock, 1/4 mile. Anyone with actual experiences? Curious for possible future project.

GTO is faster.

The LS2 GTO had 400 hp vs 360 hp and the G8 GT is a bit heavier.

MOST G8 GT were in the mid to high 13 range while MOST A4 GTO were in the 13.0 to 13.5 range. I think the average GTO would be around 13.3 and the average G8 GT would be around 13.70.

Actually I had an A4 2005 GTO and I now own a G8 GXP and I would put the GTO right in the middle of a G8 GT and a G8 GXP.

This is assuming all cars were bone stock.

i agree with old goat very few G8 GTs were faster than 13.5 bone stock. As far as a race project goes though its whatever you want.

The 6 speed auto in the G8 offset's the difference in weight almost over the 4 speed auto GTO. From a dig I would say the GTO is faster stock for stock, but from a roll the G8 is faster then the auto GTO. Now a 6 speed manual GTO is faster all around over the G8 period.

I'm not sure about that. My G8 is almost dead even with my father's 2004 M6 GTO from a roll, with the GTO just edging me out up top. I would think an A4 LS2 GTO would beat an M6 LS1 GTO in any kind of race.

Thats a pretty good question.
Personally i think the G8 GT is very slow, well mine is and its 100% stock. People say 0-60 between 5-5.6. I'm thinking its slower than that.

I agree. I was very excited about the car when I first got it but I was one of those people stuck between a G8 and a Corvette. Neither provides the optimal solution. If it was faster and lighter I would enjoy the car more.

Working on that...

My grandmothers G8 went 13.7-9 at the track at best and my 04 GTO when I had it was around a 13.4. We bought it new in 09 and I actually had plans for it, but after driving it and taking it to the track.. I decided it was best to stick with my SS.

I just get used to things too fast... I get more power and a week later it feels slow again. I already had a vette so there was no desire to go that route again.

I ran a couple gto's when mine was pretty much stock and running 13.60's. They are close, but I was able to 60' better and didn't get beat by either at the track, we were both within a tenth or so.

From what I remember looking at the top 10 bone stock cars back on LS1GTO.com (this was a few years ago), most of the top 10 cars were auto. It would be hard to search now a days as most GTO's are modded.

Even the Pontiac brochure indicated the auto was faster in the quarter by a tenth.

my g8 runs 11's.....I would personally go with the g8 because no one has broken into the 9's as of yet. I'm hoping I can throw a maggie on my car and do a few other things and be one of the few in the 9's next year!

Good luck... 11's are easy, 9's takes some serious work!
There aren't even that many in the 10's which shows how much work it takes. But I guess with unlimited funds anything is possible. Gonna take a built engine, built trans, built rear, a big blower to move 4k lbs into single digits! Looking at an easy $20k just in basic stuff not including the details, safety, etc..

I'm working on getting my car there. I'm slowly upgrading everything thats needed to get there... finished the roll bar/wheel studs/misc safety stuff, finishing up the suspension now, beefing up the drivetrain to take more power, soon be time for more power. Since it appears it takes at least 550-600whp to even run high 10's from those that have done it, 9's is going to take an easy 750+whp.

Just take a look at how much more horsepower you have to have to move a car our size into the 9's:

3000 pounds: 692 hp
3200 pounds: 738 hp
3400 pounds: 784 hp
3600 pounds: 830 hp
3800 pounds: 876 hp
4000 pounds: 922 hp

Yup. Plus a maggie easily adds 60 lbs to the front of the car. It comes in 2 boxes weighting 80 and 40 lbs.

SLOW SEDAN:

Do you have a current list of all that is done to your car or a link?
I think I asked but it was a long time ago. Haven't checked up on what you big dogs are running recently.
