Default Looking to buy a G8, WTF prices?

So been looking at moving to a G8 since my A6 is out of warranty and want something I can drive every day with worries or $5,000 repairs randomly popping up.

Prices seems to be completely random across the board. Specifically looking for an 09 GT. I am seeing some base model v6's going for the same price as the fully loaded v8's? And even at that, it seems like you should be able to walk out the door with tags on the car for no more then $20K.

I'm seen many post online with people saying they picked up brand new 09 GT's loaded for around $26k? Its (in reality) 3 years later, why are they still the same price? I mean its a great car, but seriously, this is no collectors item.

Some may say thats debatable. Pontiac is no longer in business so there will never be another G8 GT made. The GXP prices are really insane.

I guess but i could see what you mean but I still can't justify them selling now for what they sold new. Ford GT's, I can for sure see why they sell now for more then new, but yeah, this car is not anywhere near the same reasoning lol

The people that got deals on 09s probably did so when the economy was in the crapper and the dealers were desperate for sales. I know I did...my 3000 mile loaded demo was only $24,500 in early 2009. The prices are due to basic economics, there's a dwindling supply for a great product. In 2008 dealers weren't evening accepting GM employee discounts and some were marking up the MSRP because of supply and demand. The prices will drop again when the economy really tanks forcing private sellers and dealers to sell them at prices they wouldn't consider now. Keep looking leases 08/09 leases are expiring and that should help to.

If I look long enough, something always comes along for the price I want. Will just take some time to find it.

I follow you on the whole economics of the situation in 09, but damn its a PONTIAC SEDAN!. They appreciate like a 250 GTO apparently

I paid 27k for my fully loaded 09 GT in March of 09 when GM announced it was eliminating Pontiac. That is when prices were the lowest. 2 years later with 40k on it bluebook is still worth what I paid for it new. Search the G8 boards they come up for sale on there for reasonable prices fairly often although there is no way you will pick one up for under $20k. They are a highly desired car. Dealers around here are selling them with 30k miles and cloth interior for $26k

I guarantee this year I fill find on for that price or lower. The landing of the Chevy version seems imminent, especially since this car is in such high demand in the used market. At that point people can buy one of those BRAND NEW for the same price as a used G8 is now, so that price bubble will pop for sure.

I picked mine up for 30k (fully loaded) out the door in jan of 09. About a month after they said pontiac was gonna be gone but they also paid off my car loan that I had on my trade in which was $4500 so I really got mine for around 26k. Sticker on the car was $35,999. Like what was said before, my car has 40,000 miles on it and still KBB for 26,000 in "Good Condition".

I have loved having a 4 door and unless things get bad for me financially I will never unload this car.

Basic market economics at play here. Supply and demand. The car is still in high demand, got great reviews and all in all is a very solid car that was put in comparision with some of the luxury german brands and beat those brands.

I got my GXP with a sticker of $42,000 for $36,000 out the door with my GM discount and the rebates that were running.

Also as of now the replacement car is a pipe dream. The police version is built on the longer Holden Statesman platform and not the Commodore platform. Also the Commodore is up for revamp and as of now GM has no intentions of bringing it back over, that was announced a couple of weeks ago.

With that it means there is very limited supply. Only 36,000 G8's made it over, only 1829 GXP's made it over.

All of that dictates market pricing right now.

Fortunately, we have only seen a handful of GXP wreck threads.

The g8s hold their value very well. Search the g8 forums ans you will find some deals on some very tastefully modded g8s.

Reports out now seem to suggest the Chevy version is dead and being blocked by the new FWD Impala.
