Default Help on NEW key programming

If there are any GM techs here you help is needed.
I have a 2009 G8 GT that I bought without any keys.
I had GM cut me 2 new keys and supply 2 new fobs.
I've seen instructions on programming additional keys but only if original key is present. This is not my case.
I have a tech2 and can purchase access to GM TDS for programming.
I just don't know if I need to buy a new BCM for the 2 new keys, as it is required on the GTOs.
If you know a procedure for programming new keys without existing key and without having to use GM TDS please post it here or give me a call.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Fellow G8 owner shared this and it worked for me using a 30 minute program procedure without Tech2 or SPS.

Date: January 06, 2009
Subject:
Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Programming
Models:
2008-2009 Pontiac G8

The purpose of this bulletin is to provide information regarding programming of the transponder key and the RKE transmitter.

Transponder key programming may be required for any of the following reasons:

^ Additional key to be added

^ Replacement key required

^ Immobilizer replacement

^ Keys lost or replaced for security/theft reasons

Remote keyless entry transmitter programming may be required for any of the following reasons:

^ Additional transmitter to be added

^ Replacement transmitter required

^ Synchronizing the transmitter after battery replacement

^ Transponder Key Programming

Note: Except for adding additional transponder or valet keys to a vehicle with a properly functioning security system, programming the keys will require using the 10‐Minute Vehicle Key Relearn procedure and TIS2WEB and selecting the Service Programming System (SPS).

OR

Using the 30‐Minute Vehicle Key Relearn procedure as another option (except Canada).

The transponder key must be programmed to the theft deterrent module (TDM) of the immobilizer system.

Adding Keys
Note: Using this procedure requires that a programmed and properly functioning master key be available.

^ This procedure adds keys only.

^ This procedure does not erase previously programmed keys.

^ The keys to be programmed must duplicate the mechanical cut of the current key in order to cycle the ignition switch.

^ If more than one valet key is to be programmed, immediately precede each valet key with a programmed master key.

1. With a programmed master key, turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF.

2. Turn OFF the ignition and remove the key.

3. Within 10 seconds of turning OFF the ignition, insert the key to be programmed and turn ON the ignition. The vehicle has now programmed the new key.

Replacing Keys

10‐Minute Vehicle Key Relearn Procedure Using TIS2WEB and SPS

This 10‐Minute Relearn procedure should be used when ALL of the vehicle keys need to be replaced or reprogrammed. This procedure will erase all previously programmed vehicle keys from the TDM. Once this procedure has been completed, any remaining vehicle keys may be programmed by using the Adding Keys procedure to ensure their continued functionality.

1. Ensure that all power consuming devices are turned OFF on the vehicle.

2. Connect the scan tool to the vehicle in the pass‐thru arrangement.

3. Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF.

4. On the TIS2WEB, select Service Programming System and follow the on‐screen instructions using the Pass‐Thru method. Ensure that the correct programming selection is chosen based on the component being replaced or programmed. For this specific procedure, go to V.T.D. Vehicle Theft Deterrent Learn menu and choose the Vehicle Theft Deterrent Learn for Learning Replacement Keys selection.

5. At this point the scan tool must remain connected for the duration of the 10‐Minute Relearn procedure.
Note: The scan tool will initially display: 12 Minutes. The first 2 minutes allow the scan tool to initialize the appropriate control module. The remaining 10 minutes is for the relearn timer.

On some vehicles the security indicator may be illuminated for the duration of the 10‐Minute Relearn procedure.

6. Observe the scan tool. After approximately 10 minutes, the scan tool will display: Programming Successful, Turn OFF Ignition. The vehicle is now ready to relearn the transponder key information and/or the passwords on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK.

7. Turn OFF the ignition and wait two minutes.

8. With a master vehicle key, turn the ignition to the RUN position for 15 seconds, THEN start the vehicle. The TDM has now learned the key transponder information.

9. If additional keys are required to be programmed, refer to the Adding Keys procedure.

10. With a scan tool clear any DTCs.

Replacing Keys

30‐Minute Vehicle Key Relearn Procedure (except Canada)

This 30‐Minute Relearn procedure should be used when ALL of the vehicle keys need to be replaced or reprogrammed. This procedure will erase all previously programmed vehicle keys from the TDM. Once this procedure has been completed, any remaining vehicle keys may be programmed by using the Adding Keys procedure to ensure their continued functionality.

1. With an unprogrammed master vehicle key, turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF.

2. Observe the security indicator. After approximately 10 minutes the telltale will turn off.

3. Turn OFF the ignition and wait five seconds.

4. Repeat Steps 1‐3 two more times for a total of three cycles or 30 minutes.
Note: The TDM learns the key transponder information upon the ignition switch transition from OFF to ON. You must turn the ignition OFF before attempting to start the vehicle.

5. With a master vehicle key, start the vehicle. The vehicle has now memorized the key transponder information.

6. If additional keys are required to be programmed, refer to the Adding Keys procedure.

7. With a scan tool clear any DTCs.

Remote Control Door Lock Transmitter Programming

Next Available Slot

The remote keyless entry (RKE) transmitter key pad must be programmed to the remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR) module. This procedure will program keyless entry transmitters in sequential order. If two transmitters are currently programmed to the vehicle as transmitters 1 and 2, using this procedure will program the next transmitter as 3 and so on.
Note: Do not operate or program the transmitters in the vicinity of other vehicles that are in the keyless entry mode. This prevents the programming of the transmitters to the incorrect vehicle.

1. With a scan tool, access Body/Auto HVAC or Manual HVAC. Continue to navigate through the OnStar® selections, as equipped, to Body/Remote Control Door Lock Receiver/Module Setup menu. Select Program Key Fobs.

2. Select Next Available Slot. The vehicle chime will sound two times to indicate that the programming mode has been entered. Fully read and then follow the on‐screen instructions. After each transmitter has been programmed, the vehicle chime will sound to confirm the programming.

3. When all of the desired transmitters have been programmed, cycle the ignition from ON to OFF, exit the vehicle and operate the transmitter functions in order to verify correct system operation.

Invalidate All Fobs

This procedure will first erase all known keyless entry transmitters. After all transmitters are erased, the procedure will begin to program keyless entry transmitters in sequential order, beginning with transmitter 1.

1. With a scan tool, access Body/Auto HVAC or Manual HVAC. Continue to navigate through the OnStar® selections, as equipped, to Body/Remote Control Door Lock Receiver/Module Setup menu. Select Program Key Fobs.

2. Select Invalidate All Fobs. This will erase all known transmitters and prepare the RCDLR to program new transmitters.

Transmitter Slot Programming - SPO Accessory Advance 2‐Way Remote Start System Only

Transmitter slot programming allows a single transmitter to be programmed into a specific slot without affecting any of the other programmed transmitters. By using slot programming, the transmitter originally programmed to a specific slot is erased and the new transmitter learned in its place.
Note: The keyless entry transmitter used in the Advance 2‐Way Remote Start System is unique to the system. Attempting to replace an Advance 2‐Way Remote Start transmitter with a regular service part may result in a failure to program the transmitter.

1. With a scan tool, access Body/Auto HVAC or Manual HVAC. Continue to navigate through the OnStar® selections, as equipped, to Body/Remote Control Door Lock Receiver/Module Setup menu. Select Program Key Fobs.

2. Select the key fob desired to be programmed. The vehicle chime will sound two times to indicate that the programming mode has been entered. Fully read and then follow the on‐screen instructions. After each transmitter has been programmed, the vehicle chime will sound to confirm the programming.

3. When the programming is complete, cycle the ignition from ON to OFF, exit the vehicle and operate the transmitter functions in order to verify correct system operation.
