Default G8 Gxp

Alright guys I plan on buying a G8. I was woundering if anyone knew if a GXP version will be made. I would hate to buy one in a couple months when they come out and then have a GXP available after I buy. I have heard alot of talk about a GXP "ls3" and was woundering where it was all coming from. Thanks

Im not sure how accurate this is but I thought i heard they were planning on releasing a gxp version the second year of production on the G8's. Could just be over eager speculation.

I would expect a GXP out about a year or so after initial introduction with a LS3.

I heard '09, LS3, from several people with some connections....but there's nothing official so we really don't know yet. Might be worth it to wait anyway, as perhaps the GT prices will be lower (certainly at resale) if a GXP comes out.

I heard you shouldn't count on anything mentioned in this forum actually happening. 99% is speculation.

that being said the only things confirmed so far are a V6 and a 360 some odd horsepower 6.0 V8 (not the LS2!!!!)

Did you know that 93.7% of all statistics are made up on the spot?

People are speculating based on GMs past. first off, they release the new V8 motors int he corvette the first year, then they use it in other models the following year. the LS3 is coming out in 08 in the corvette, so that leaves cars like the camaro, G8 and a few others for 09.

also Gm tends to release new cars, then when the interest dies off after the release year, they offer new options the second year. thats typical for convertibles or larger engine options.

In addition, the pontiac division has been making a GXP model for all of their cars lately, so a GXP version of the G8 is almost definite. which engine is not clear, but its a good speculation to assume itll be the LS3, and the HSV body panels.

As long as they don't give it the GXP treatment that the G6 got that was all appearance and no performance haha.

Not a chance. It will most likely be the LS3 but by the time the GXP comes out who knows what GM will be pushing out there. The L76 will be the GT motor which is essentially a LS2 bottem end with a L92 head and manifold. It will be tuned down a lot to run 87 octane (tuner car for sure).

I am worried also that if I buy a G8 GT that I will regret it when the GXP releases like a year later to re-up interest in the vehicle. But, that being said, I feel like the GT will be a great tuner car and as an ex GTO owner and a current TBSS owner, my style is a little more on the sleeper side. So I think I might be happier with a slightly understated appearance anyways. The possible GXP performance upgrades over the GT will also come with appearance changes I am sure on par with that of the G6 GXP or similar and that is just not something I want. I would rather mod it to my liking (which I would do anyways) and not have the "look at me" styling that will probably come with the G8 GXP. Just my 2 pennies on the subject.

question,

doesnt ls3 only have 20 more horsepower?

the new g8's are hot, and have a real backseat, and with a 6 speed?!? i'd be all over that in a heartbeat if i could afford it.

Me and my wife are planning to get the GT sometime next year. GMHTP claims that they come w/ a conservative fuel/spark tune (as usual in LSx/L76/L92/etc) and that a tuner w/ updated software might be able to get up to 40 more hp out of it. 362 + 40 = 402 LS3 - 425-ish. I'll sacrifice less money for 20hp.

I'm sure you'll see 40HP alone on a tune. This motor has tons of potential.
