Pontiac G8 Weight and pricing!
Well here you have it:
General Motors is preparing to launch the Pontiac G8 and has announced pricing for the highly-anticipated sedan. Based on the Commodore from GM's Holden subsidiary in Australia, the G8 will serve as a replacement to the aging Grand Prix.
The base model — priced from $27,595 — features a 261 horsepower 3.6-liter V6 with 250 pound-feet of torque. A more powerful G8 GT — starting at $29,995 — delivers 362 horsepower and 391 pound-feet of torque thanks to a 6.0-liter V8.
The basic G8 features a five-speed automatic with manual mode, while the GT version is offered with either a six-speed automatic or six-speed manual gearbox.
Curb weight for the V6 model is 3,885 lbs, while the GT weighs just five pounds shy of 4,000. 18-inch wheels come standard, while 19-inch alloys can be ordered with the GT model.
The sedan rides on GM's new Zeta rear-wheel-drive platform, which underpins the 2009 Camaro and possibly the next-generation Impala, in addition to several other planned vehicles.
G8 deliveries are expected to begin in early 2008 — a relatively short lead time made possible by some very effective badge engineering.

The lone transmission option for both the V6 and V8 2008 models will be a six-speed automatic with paddle shifters. Earlier press information indicated that a manual option for GT cars would be available, but this is not the case. "What we've said — and which is still the case — is that the six-speed manual won't be available at launch," a Pontiac spokesman told Edmunds. "There is no manual option for 2008." It is believed that there will be a manual option for 2009, although GM has yet to confirm if and when a manual will be available.

Curb weight for the V6 model is 3,885 lbs. The new G8 which is based on the same platform as the 09 Camaro, a V8 Camaro we can expect to weigh in just shy of 4,000#s. My guess it will weigh a little less since the G8 has a longer wheel base. So perhaps 37-3800.

The G8 is a 4 door family sedan the camaro will be a 2 door coupe. There will probably be a 300lb difference between the 2. So the new camaro won't weigh anymore than a fully loaded T/A does. Use some common sense.

Let's hope that it's more like 500 lbs. Over 3,600 lbs is disgustingly fat, and I can practically guarantee the Camaro will be significantly heavier than that.

I just read there will be no manual transmission offered... Ugh, just when I thought GM knew what they were doing... This is a huge disappointment, I was actually going to buy this car years down the road... I hope your reading this GM...

That sounds REALLY high That sounds more like the weight WITH driver. Hell, convertibles frequently weigh in around that weight.

There may not be a manual, but there will probably be a paddle shift option, which is actually fairly nice on the current Grand Prix.
Please before you call the new Camaro, (and the Zeta platform) a fat ***, consider the G8 is a Holden Commodore, rebadged. If anyone knows a bit about Australia, they overengineer many of their cars to compensate for their crappy roads.
Personally, I think GM is making a mistake, the 2008 Grand Prix, a near full size sedan starts at $21,000 for a base model. The G6 can't absorb all of the Grand Prix sales when the Prix ends production next year.
Theres going to be a big price gap between the base G6 and the base G8, which I think is a mistake. Pontiac for years had a compact car (Sunbird/Sunfire/G5), followed by, midsize cars (Grand Am/G6), then the near full size (Grand Prix), and lastly the Full size (Bonneville/G8)
My Grand Prix GT2, which is fully loaded weighs 3500lbs has nice pick up with the 200HP/230Torque V6. The Nissan Maxima weighs 3500lbs also, and has 255HP/255Torque, and is a fast mother (for a full size sedan). The Base G8 with 262 HP will be able to pull its 3800lbs nicely.
GM nor many consumers want a ultra speedy sedan, IMO, the G8 will be decently fast, It won't be a full blown sports car, but a Sport Sedan

Because the Charger R/T is actually slightly more expensive and slower. Automatic G8 GT will run to 60 in 5.4 seconds and do the 1/4 in 14 flat with the manual that WILL be offered later in the year being a little quicker. Quick enough in my opinion for a big family sedan that can be had for just under 30K.

Damn thats going to be heavy but it should ride nice. My wife and I can't wait till it comes out, most likely that will be her new car as long as its a M6.
I'm going to guess the new Camaro will weigh in around 3800-3900. It's going to need the LS3 to get it in the low 13's

I don't think people who would be interested in this car care about who or what they're faster than.(I am one of those looking at it) This isn't meant to be a Camaro, T/A, or GTO replacement. It's a fast fun 4 door family sedan. I seriously looked at the Charger, but's it's just too fugly on the outside and bland on the inside. For people who need the space for kids and the trunk space, but still want something fun to drive, this is perfect. And at 30K, it's a bargain.
