Okay, maybe they shouldn't have called it a Firehawk, but hell I would pimp that as a daily driver for sure. Nice wheels too.

I just drove the 12 hours back from Indy. This is real and we've been planning it for the last year.

I will comment more tomorrow, but for now the actual Teaser brochure that I gave away at the CamaroZ28.com banquet and at the track:

I cannot get into performance questions/answers quite yet, but lets just say the performance on our Supercharged model is more than impressive, 50 state legal and fully warranted.

The reaction was overwhelming and I can't wait to be able to get into the details.

They (SLP) own the naming rights, but they probably shouldve left the Firehawk name die with the Firebird.

Otherwise, I like the idea of putting blowers on rear wheel drive V8 cars.

So when will they announce the introduction of the G3 Firehawk? A Vibe Firehawk? A Torrent Firehawk?

While I like the G8 GT/GXP, I don't like the idea of using the Firehawk name on anything that isn't deserving. A 4 door V6 G8 Firehawk? Terrible, absolutely terrible... Way to diminish an icon...

Waters down the name if you ask me. They could have been more creative and called it something else. Maybe even GXX or G450 (thinking of a 450hp model).

As a current Firehawk owner, I can't say I'm pleased to see the name added to a 4-door sedan. Firehawk should only be for Firebirds, period. I'd rather have seen a new model name introduced.

Exactly, I don't care how much performance the car has, it's a heritage issue. It'd be like calling the Sunfire a Trans Am, you just don't do it.

I will. Folks, please understand that our scheduled unveil was going to be at SEMA in November. The folks at GM asked us to do it at the GM event at Indianapolis this past weekend and we obliged.

We are not yet ready to announce details, but I will post updates as I can. I will also have a micro-site set up at slponline.com in the next week or so that you can sign up for updates.

Regards,

David

I'm with Tony on this one. Even if the car kicks a$$, the name firehawk belongs associated with the Firebird. What's worse the fine print says it could be used on a V6 model. Unless it has a big blower, that seems like a great way to water the name down to nothing.

We all love power and performance Dave. But, this new "Firehawk" simply makes our Firebird versions less special now. Sort of like how Chevy slaps "SS" on everything they build. It becomes less special by doing so.

The name wouldn't ever die as you stated, there are (were?) 1000s of Firehawk enthusiasts and fans that will not forget what it is. There are 1000s more Firehawk fans that don't even own Firehawks, bet they will not like this news either.

As for the target consumer, I think you are not considering something here. Those of us that bought new Firehawk Firebirds are now 10-15 yrs older, and we ARE the target consumer now for the G8. I may buy a GXP for my wife. I'm not happy to see "Firehawk" on the door of a 4-door sedan though. The car itself might kick serious ass, but you have now diluted something that many of us considered special.

I don't see anyone supporting this idea in this thread, either:

SLP G8 Firehawk?

Some market research from the largest LS-engine community would have been nice before this was announced.

Tony, you know I love this place, but it is well known in the Aftermarket Automotive community that is not the place to do R&D on new vehicles/new vehicle items.

We used a more traditional means including a few past Firehawk owners that had no issues with the name being used as well other methods that we have used for the past 18 years of building niche vehicles.

Well where is the place to do R&D then? I mean this is THE BIGGEST community for YOUR branded vehicles. I think it's absolutely foolish to say you consulted with a few Firehawk owners. Why not consult with ALL the Firehawk owners? Its a simple as clicking "New Thread" and watching HUNDREDS of replies flood in.

I have bought a V6 Firebird, GTP, a Firehawk, and a GTO. A G8 is next on my list. We not only fall in love with the cars, we fall in love with the engines and follow them through the platforms. Your "market research" clearly missed me - and I'm EXACTLY your target. I even bought a Firehawk birth certificate for my car - that's how much of a nut I am.

May have to do a petition so our voices can be heard..

I'm sure they're well past the name selecting stage. We will fall in love with the car, but I will never love that name on that car. It's heritage, not performance that bothers me.
