Looking at one of these, super low miles, super maintained and the like. Tell me why not to buy the car lol.
Ive heard that these cars make about 370ish stock to the wheels and with a airfilter kit and a good tune its knockin on 400rwhp. I believe it since I just went for a test drive and was doing 90 on the on ramp to the interstate from a dead stop from the bottom of the hill. I feel that the car would do low 12s as it sits with sticky tires and not breaking anything lol.
I have a family of 4(one being almost 4yrs old) and this is probably my best bet to get back in the saddle.....

Good Luck!!! I see your from Vance, guess u will take it to holiday beach (If you get it)? I woul love to have a GXP but I have the GT instead and I love it!! The GXP I'm sure is better! I have a gmc with the 6.2 and it runs awesome! I could imagine how good that car would run!

If you get it for a decent price then I say go for it.

Pontiac is no more and the GXP's are extremely rare and will most certainly retain there value over time. Downside will be finding spare body parts especially GXP front bumper and rear diffusers if replacement is needed.

Holden is still producing the Commodore with the G8 front end in Australia so getting parts isn't a problem.

Thats good to hear. I was concerned about replacement parts and hoped this car is like the 04-06 GTO when it comes to body parts.
Yes, Holiday Beach will have a visit when it opens back up.
Mileage of this bad boy just rolled 8k miles!

Ultra low mileage GXPs aren't great family cars IMO. They are very rare collector or hobby cars and have immense value when the mileage is kept very low and the car is kept stock. If you want a family car you can use and abuse a CTS-V, SRT8 or even a G8 GT is going to be a better bet and probably cost the same amount of money or less.

Parts for G8s are getting expensive and though they are available it can be a long wait for anything that breaks to arrive from Australia, which could be very inconvenient if this is your only car. Manual GXPs had widespread issues with master cylinder leaks and clutch problems when new. The interiors of these cars also don't wear very well. Every hard black plastic part scratches if you breath on it and the entire interior is made out of the stuff, if you haul kids, pets or stuff in the car it's going to get scuffed up everywhere real fast.

Im a driver and believe every car is built to be driven. Ive got friends with low mileage "collector" cars and Im just not on the same wave length. Sure, if I found a 8k miles '70 RS/SS then yeah, I wouldnt drive it everyday but will drive it 2-3k miles a year.

I had parts replaced twice under warranty just recently and the parts were there the next day. They don't come from Australia unless they aren't in stock here which is very rare.

I imagine after about 5 years or so it will be different. GM has to support the vehicle for 10 years so after that it may not be so easy.

Almost all the drivetrain parts and a lot of the suspension parts from the new Camaro will fit the G8, so getting those parts in the future will be easy. The body and interior parts will become more difficult to find after the 10 year point, starting when Holden stops production on that style Commodore.

Also the new Chevy police car is based on the Commodore so that will mean plenty of parts in the USA.

The first GTOs are not even ten years old yet parts for those are becoming scarcer and were never cheap in the first place, especially not compared to F-bodies, Mustangs, SRT8s and other North American made cars.

Even with the law they are going to stock parts here less and less for these low number captive imports. Many things that are bespoke to it like body, interior, electronic and suspension parts are similar in price to what you would see for a German car.

The new Caprice hasn't sold well (yet) either, it's another source of parts but if the car only lasts a few years it won't change much.

Absolutely, however most people don't buy cars that are 1 of 1,800 (and even less made with a manual) to use as a normal car. If you hot rod it or put visible wear on it and have to sell it in a year or two you could be looking at serious diminished value if you're paying top dollar for it.

These cars also have widespread issues with front wheel bearings failing prematurely and steering wheel shake that can be very difficult if not impossible to correct as well.

I haven't heard of any front wheel bearing failures but the front control arm failure is widespread. There are some aftermarket companies that are addressing that issue with stronger parts. I have 50,000 miles on my G8 and it hasn't been down for more than one day on a few different occasions.

It seems you're blowing this out of proportion, the cars are still being produced in Australia unlike the GTO which is no longer in production. Plus as I said earlier, many of the Camaro parts fit the G8 (clutch/trans/motor/rear end) and the Chevy cop car also shares many parts with it so it won't be a problem. As long as a fair amount of the cop cars are sold GM has to supply parts for them.

I'm currently considering buying my wife a G8 since it's such a great car, even with all this talk about limited parts availability. It's either that or a Dodge Charger which she also likes.
