Default 05 GTO wheel hop issues?

Ok everyone, i dont know if you know anything about this, but my friend has an 05 LS2 GTO and is having some issues with abnormal wheel hop.

Normally just spinning the rears there is no to very little wheel hop, and when there is, its only for a second. Normally it doesnt shake the whole car or anything which now is happening.

Now when the rear end starts to hop, the entire car will shudder especially the trans area seems to be moving much more than before.

He seems to think it is a rear wheel bearing causing it to become "loose", im not so sure. It could be that or possibly a trans mount...maybe? im not sure, ive never worked on a GTO before so any input would be great. THANKS ALL.

what he said^^^. an independent suspension rear end is prone to that. not all GTOs exhibit it the same way or take the same level of "fix" but the first step is usually either drag bags or stiffer springs and shocks or sometimes both. the rear subframe bushes are next. differential mount insert or the better (and more expensive) Harrop diff cover is next, then inner and then outer rear control arm bushings. there are even further steps you can do like the drive shaft and trans mount. the other thing to note is that traction or lack thereof is the start of it. if your tires don't spin you don't hop so tires also come into play. as you can see there's no one-size-fits-all easy answer. i've done everything plus a couple and the worst i get is a little stutter. the most important thing to know is if you start to get violet hop get out of it immediately if not sooner. hop will break things in the drive line like drive shaft, half shafts, stubs and more quicker than you can think.

Thanks, well probably first do some bags, and if he still wants get some stiffer springs/shocks. Hopefully that helps to cancel it, but if not it seems there are quite a few possibilities to what can be causing this.

bags are a band-aid....I've got full suspension with a harrop cover and absolutely no hop....I would never put drag bags on this car

you could make the argument that anything you do to the car away from stock is band aiding the inherent problems of an IRS. lots of people have done suspensions AND the bags. i had them for two years and they worked great and i don't have them now but have a full suspension. the biggest difference in wheel hop is about $2,000 in parts

Your engine is twisting.
They make these torque dampers for 04's.

You do realize this thread is 4 years old? Most of us have cleared up this problem with a anti wheel hop axle on the passenger side from sponsers.

I have come to the conclusion that every bit of rubber on the car is ****.

Motor mounts, front bushings, rear bushings, driveshaft donut, etc.
