Default Belt Problems

Anybody else having or had difficulty with their belts/pulleys? I'm getting a high pitched whining coming from one of them, that quiets down when the engine warms up or when the clutch is pushed in but it never fully goes away. Thoughts?

I had the same issues, but it was because my camaro just got flooded out 2 weeks ago. Here is how to figure which set is doing it. Pull the main belt, then start the car just long enough to see if its still there. If so, then its your idler or tention pulleys on the ac bracket. The replacement part is about $16 at autozone. If thats not it, then reach in and spin each pulley by hand and feel how they respond. You can also check the altinator at this time and spin it as well. If they are tight or rough spinning, and dont spin freely, then that may be the one. Also check your belts since your at it, may be a good time to get new ones. One other thing it may be is the ac and clutch making that noise. To test that, start the car with all belts on, and cut the ac system on, if the sound goes away, then you know its the clutch on the ac pump. Spray some wd-40 on it to help clean some of the gunk out. Hope this helps.

I had luck adding a little bit of stop-squeak or WD-40 to the belt when the car was running. It seems to happen more when a belt is just getting broken in. Don't douse it, just a little bit while the car is running.

I just replaced the ac belt last weekend so that could be it. I'm gonna try the option above to see if that helps and if not then I'll just give the belt a spray. I'm a little worried it's my clutch or flywheel making the noise because the sound is coming from under the car.

take a bar of soap and let it rub on each pulley untill the squeak is gone then you will know which one to replace, most likely its the a/c tention pulley like mine.

Good job finding your problem, but man, dealer parts!! AutoZone, Advanced Auto, and O'reilys are your friends! Especialy for parts like that, did you see my post where I got the same part for only $16.00 from Autozone? Again, good job on the trouble shoot and repair.

I tried all of them and none them carried it. They said it was a dealer specific part. They're full of it if you ask me.

They didn't know what you were asking for..... if you take in the part you can usually get a part number cross reference if you had another car.

Well, I guess not all the auto parts stores are the same, I can see if they were idots. I say next time, just do a internet search at one of thier websites and get the part number yourself, then no need to ask them any questions, just give them the part number. Keeps the "duh" out of it.
