i just bought a 04 5.7 gto auto and love the car and was really suprised at how quick it is stock. I have had a couple cammed lt1 and ls1 trans am's and this gto is not to far off from those cars stock.

I have a buddy who wants to race me from a dig for money i was just wondering what my chances would be.

373 gears

I am thinking i can still beat him stock seeing is how he will be on street tires and trying to launch his car i feel he will spin a whole lot more than i will your thoughts would be appreciated.

Also what are some of the basic beginning mods for an 04 A4 5.7 gto?

I think you should win. Him being on street tires is not a good thing.

Some basic mods would be LT headers, ls6 intake, CAI, Catback, ORY, 3.73 and a tune. Most auto guys would tell you your 1st mod should be a stall! I hear that really wakes auto's up a whole lot!!

We sold our 99' Cobra to my buddy when I got my LS1 and he had it tuned since that and I beat him in my stock 99' Z forever ago. Not to mention the LS1's in the GTO was rated at 350hp where mine is only 315hp so you definitely have him!

thanks for the help i was thinking since this is my daily driver i would do a CAI and a catback and thow a 100 wet shot on and call it a day with some radials would i be able to hit the 12.5 mark with intake catback and a 100 shot??

With a 100 shot and drag radials you shjould be low 12's

how will the motor hold up to a 100 shot do i need to do a bunch of tuning? I know the ls1 motors are damn near bullet proof but this is my daily and i dont wanna be blown anything up.

I think he would win unless he botched the launch.

Is that engine similar to the Mach I 4V? Stock Mach I is on par with an 04 GTO. I understand from reading previous 04 GTO owners with Auto that the computer limits shift points and power output,etc.

the 99 cobra is quick with the right mods....if you can get him off the line you will win but if he does a good launch you will have your hands full.....tell him since he is modded to give you the break(the launch)

He's already got an ls6 intake.

Pray to god you don't **** up the launch. Other wise should be a fun race.

Start with LTs, CAI with an IAT relocate, less restrictive exhaust, and a tune

LS1 GTOs already come with the LS6 intake manifold and all GTOs have true duals

Get Longtubes and a tune first then race. Your factory tune is very , very lame. Come over to LS1GTO , we have tons of info over there. Good luck btw.

My friends 1998 cobra dynoed 259 stock... way back in the day my STOCK ws6... would SLAUGHTER that thing over and over again. Not even close. My car dynoed 302 on the same dyno, same day. BOTH cars rated at 320 from their respected companies....
There is a reason the SVT team was fired and re-organized 2002 (why there is no such thing as a cobra 2002... and came out with a forged, blown, done to the nuts 03. - because they didnt know what they were doing, still dont really..
