Theres some guys over on ls1gto.com that have 100k with no problems yet... However thats all in how the car has been maintained... A 4l60e with that many miles i'd plan on having refreshened, and throw a bigger stall convertor in while you're at it... As for the motor, should last another 50-100k as long as its been properly maintained. I've had my 04' A4 for 2 months now, and it has 52k on it... No gripes yet, I absolutely love this car its worlds apart from my old 01' z28 as far as quality and comfort! Good luck, and welcome to the club

The trans is one of my deep concerns.... if its the A4 like mine its rumored to have some common problems.

If your looking for someone to tell you at the exact point your tranny will quit I am not that guy. I am pretty sure you know when you are "beating" on it. But then again these cars have quite a few weak spots in the driveline so you never know.

how about before you start throwing money at it you drive and see how it hold up for a while.

I would go ahead and start saving for a built trans now, dont even bother with a shiftkit/converter/cooler at this point...

chances are the rear springs are colapsed along with your strut mounts, focus on getting it solid and reliable before you try to make a tire destroyer, as that is not what these cars should be used for in stock form..

No, I'm not asking you that, People have different definitions of the same word, I wanted you to give your definition of beating, because some guys (or gals) might throw it in neutral and drop it in drive, that would be my definition of beating it, giving it some gas every so often in my definition would not be beating it.

trans under stock power should be ok with mild abuse.

but with that mileage who knows how much it has left.

thats why you upgrade stuff when it breaks.

Well its my girls dd, just wanted the cooler an shift kit to help they tranny stay around she won't beat on it. tell me what yall think, she traded in a 01 explorer with 120000 it runs crappy an has a rebuilt trans, she got 3k for it. The goat has had the front strut an roders replaced from previous owner running into a ditch, no body work was done. My question is with her getting the 3k for the explorer an dropping the goat to 8100 out the door, was it a good deal? The car needs some paint work but the interior is perfect an red lol. Thought?

+1 on body damage.

These cars get totaled out VERY easily. Body parts aren't cheap for these things.

On the trans issue, if you do a cooler/shift kit it should be fine. Things you should remember then is try not to do any hard 4-2 downshifts as that breaks hard parts. If you are going to race, put the car in 3rd, that way you won't break things such as the reaction carrier shaft.

passenger side skirt is scraped thts all. The car itself could use a respray but bout a big deal as its just minor scratches an rock chips . Well the thing will only see me driving it some on weekends, she will baby the rest of the time. I just don't wanna have to drop cash into it anytime soon to fix ****.
