Default clunk in the drive train

Hey guys, my wife has a 04 t56 with 107k on the clock. Over the cars life she has done quite a few donuts, burn outs, and took it to the strip a few times. Now I need your guys help diagnosing a clunk noise that sounds like it is coming from somewhere between the tranny and the diff. The car is lowered so its hard to get it on a lift, but I did jack up the rear the other day to maybe look for loose bolts on the axle/diff (happened on my bimmer) but alas everything was tightened down.

So what other areas should I look for, how much can the parts usually be acquired for, and is it something I could DIY?

well these cars have two piece driveshafts in them from the factory. in the middle is a carrier bearing that mounts to the bottem of the car. id try checking that out and the rest of the shaft too

Thanks: it makes a almost constant rubbing or clunking sound when driving slow, like in a parking lot. Once you actually get moving though it stops. So mainly in 1st and reverse

Diff Fluid for sure... Make sure you use Torco with the 2oz of the Type F limited slip additive... Make sure the Torco is the RGO version... After this is put in do some slow figure 8's to work it through you rearend... This will cure the problem ...

FYI sinc you are down there just check and make sure all the drive shaft bolts are tight and nothing is loose... But im 99% sure the clunk is do to the diff fluid cause I had the same exact problem you have described and did this and all was good...

Might as well just add it onto this thread while I am at it: what do you guys think a fair price to get on these cars is? Private party, and trade in value? I kbb it at around 7, but have noticed my local Craigslist has em at double that. We where thinking about trading it in, but this will be my first dealer experience so can't say I'm a pro at 'that' game.

Defiantly appreciate all the responses.

A lot plays into factor... Is it bone stock, how many miles, A4 or M6, whats the condition ect ect ect...

Personally If I where to sell mine right now I wouldnt ask anything less then 16500 with mods and all... Not to mention I have one of the rarest colors and im only at 29000miles in Mint condition... Trust me I would want more if I can get ig cause these cars are a hell of a car imo and I think they are worth more then what they are going for...

Mine makes the same clunk when slowing down to zero mph, even in neutral. I can also feel it in my shifter when it happens. It doesn't always do it though.

Diff fluid as I stated above, Check all your CV bolts and U joint bolts to make sure none have backed out... If all is good swap diff fluid with the Friction modifier and all will be good
