Default Cam selection ??

I have an 04 GTO with M6. There are two cams I am debating on. The first is a used TR 224 that is used on craigslist for $180. The second choice is the MS4. Most likely it would be a new one. I had an MS3 in my 02 WS6 a few years ago and I loved it. I am looking to have good power. I plan to go to the strip a few times just for fun. I read a lot of good reviews on the 224 and obviously I can get it cheaper. I don't have any supporting mods yet. I am going to be doing a slow build over time.

Good friend of mine has an ms3 fs right now.240$ shipped I believe.

224 is a little small imo for an m6 unless you it is strictly a DD budget build and not looking for a lot out of it.

I'm not looking for a budget build at all actually. It is going to be a process that is going to take some time. I may sell my dirtbike to fund my HP addiction but it is my baby so it is hard to do. I have it listed for cash or trade for a turbo/supercharger kit. I am thinking an MS3 or MS4 with some nice ported heads and pacesetters would be a fun upgrade. I should have just kept my WS6 lol. If you could find out for sure about the price of the cam I may be interested in it. The TSP Tsunami looks pretty sweet also, a little lower powerband.

I'd skip on the 224 In that case.

I saw yours posted for sale, I was just searching to see if the pistons would need fly cutting or not. I haven't found an answer yet though. I know MS3 and MS4 you don't have to.

The specs aren't released. I don't think it needs to be flycut either. It sounds like a really sweet cam. I was listening to it on youtube. That may be my next cam lol.

Do you wanted a very streetable car? Do you have stock gears? If you have the stock 5.7 and want a fun street car I would go smaller. I want to sell my cam but I don't want to lead ppl the wrong way. The cam was really aggressive on my 6.0.

I could be wrong but if you want a really fun street/strip but mostly street, go with torque more then top end power. Some stage 2 ls6 or some stage 1 ls3 heads. Medium cam for more midrange. Some kooks or ARH headers. Fast 102 intake or stock ls3 intake for ls3 heads.

They are kind of posted some place I saw. Everyone says you need to contact Steve the owner for the specs because he wants them more secretive apparently.

Not released but somewhere around 23x/24x 64x 61x 112lsa. Mid 230's Intake, low 240's exh. It would be really big on a 5.7L

But it sounds sweet, esp on my Corsa sport.

I assumed he wanted a big cam since he loved the ms4. He knows what he is getting into at least.

I think it's hard to make a blanket statement that a long duration cam won't need flycutting especially given that to realize some of the benefits of a large one it would be maximized by head work/swap and larger valves. Also is the cam going to be degreed or just dropped in dot to dot? I'd for sure check PTV before turning the engine over.

I had planned on doing dot to dot. I plan to get heads eventually but this is going to be a relatively slow build due to money of course.
