Can a slap stick shifter bolt directly into a newer goat?

Can a slap stick shifter bolt directly into a newer goat? I have an older friend of mine you had an original GTO that had a slap stick shifter in it and he was wondering if one could be installed into a newer GTO. I didn't know if there were any electronics or anything that would hinder this? Any pics or info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks--Andy

i was told no, the electronic will not allow it to work . if you went to a complete manual valve body then yes .
but it has more to do with the trans computer , then there would be issues with the lockup also
